Everything was comfortable at this no-frills business hotel but what elevated the experience was the kindest, most helpful guest relations person. She helped us language-less foreigners with maps, restaurant reservations, event tickets, etc. No detail was too small for her to graciously tackle. Not only did she call for a taxi, she came to the street to personally instruct the driver. Excellent restaurant choices within walking distance--under the tracks for very authentic working man's izakaya and just a few blocks to a corridor with Midori (a well known sushi bar) and many, many after work meeting spots. Steps from Ginza shopping, fish market, kabuki, river boat to north Tokyo. Very good choice for first-timers from California. Everyone at the front desk was very helpful.

Worst hotel I stayed at in all of japan. staff is cold, unsmiling and seem to go out of their way to make your stay unpleasant.

They told a business contact who called that I had checked out of the hotel, causing endless problems. When confronted with this, they offered no apologies and refused to acknowledge any fault on their part. Rooms are tiny, even by japanese standards, filthy with hair from previous guests in the bathrooms- even tangled into the phones, scuff marks on walls, lighting fixtures broken and falling off the walls, toilets that don't flush, an overall acrid smell. staff is incompetent and barely speak English, making it extremely difficult to resolve even the smallest issue.

Overall, the unfriendliness and incompetence make this hotel unacceptable for the price paid. Stay elsewhere, there are plenty of options that are better value.

Hotel is a 2 min walk from the Shimbashi station, Hibiya exit. Walk out by the McDonalds, stay on that road and the hotel is a very short block away. Hotel rooms on our floor were supposed to be non-smoking, but don't know why - it stinked in the bathroom and reeked for 2 whole days. Other than that, the room was immaculate and the beds were extremely comfortable. We were 10 minutes walk from the Ginza area and 20 minutes walk away from Tsukiji fish market. Great location, would stay here again.

The main thing to recommend this hotel is the Annex, and its price discount over the main Dai-Ichi hotel. I stayed here with my mother last year and the hotel was impeccably clean, if a little dingy, and the staff was perfectly friendly and always helpful, even if their English was a little weak. In all it was a very good value for the central location.
