There is no doubt that this hotel has the best location in the valley although the road to get to it is long and bumpy. However, the rooms are small, cramped and dark. The beds are lumpy and uncomfortable and there is no heating in the rooms.
The food in the restaurant was good but the short menu doesn't change and a stay of longer than two nights would mean you had a very limited choice. Breakfasts were mediocre.
The weather during our stay was cold and rainy. Having now stayed at several other places in the Andes under similar conditions, we felt they could have done so much more to make this a special place. Hot water bottles in the beds? Heating? Lighting the open fireplaces in the bar and dining room for instance? Wifi (we've stayed in more remote places with satellite Internet that have wifi)
The spa is good but expensive. The hot springs outside baths were closed while we were there as the river was running too high. The indoor 'hot springs' were luke warm.
This is a hotel that could be four star but the service and facilities let it down.
