“Fabulous location but disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

There is no doubt that this hotel has the best location in the valley although the road to get to it is long and bumpy. However, the rooms are small, cramped and dark. The beds are lumpy and uncomfortable and there is no heating in the rooms.

The food in the restaurant was good but the short menu doesn't change and a stay of longer than two nights would mean you had a very limited choice. Breakfasts were mediocre.

The weather during our stay was cold and rainy. Having now stayed at several other places in the Andes under similar conditions, we felt they could have done so much more to make this a special place. Hot water bottles in the beds? Heating? Lighting the open fireplaces in the bar and dining room for instance? Wifi (we've stayed in more remote places with satellite Internet that have wifi)

The spa is good but expensive. The hot springs outside baths were closed while we were there as the river was running too high. The indoor 'hot springs' were luke warm.

This is a hotel that could be four star but the service and facilities let it down.

““Day Pass” Includes Meal and Hot Springs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The Moon guidebook states that for the price of a meal at the Colca Lodge restaurant, one has free access to the hot springs. This is not correct. The Lodge offers a US$30 “day pass” which includes a meal at the restaurant and hot springs use. Or you can pay for a massage and use the hot springs. We ate at the restaurant and I have to say it was no better than the tourist restaurants in Chivay, at higher prices.

“Beautiful hotel in spectacular surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This hotel has a great location on the bank of the Colca river. It is private and peaceful and architecturally very well landscaped into the surrounding area. Our room was a suite, very comfortable, warm with underfloor heating and a lovely ensuite shower with lots of solar powered hot water.

We spent several hours in the thermal springs on the river bank. Beautifully kept and you can order a drink which will be brought to the side of the pool.

Dinner was very tasty and there was a good choice on the menu.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly, particularly the barman who made up a new cocktail on request.

This was a great place to stay to explore the Colca area, I just wished we'd stayed more than one night.

“Lovely property and hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed here for one night, though if you'd really like to unwind and relax, I would recommend staying for 2 nights. The property is beautiful, very green, there are llamas and dogs playing on the grass (they are cute and don't bother visitors), and the river next to the hotel adds calmness. The hotel is very professional in that they have a little convenience store if there's something you forgot to pack, the lobby area has a lovely bar and people often sit and chat there at night near the warm fireplace. The breakfast is extensive and has lots of variety, so take some time to enjoy that.

We of course loved the thermal baths that are on site. When we visited, it was lightly drizzling and cold, so sitting in the hot baths when it was drizzling felt wonderful. You can also order cocktails while you are enjoying the outdoor thermal baths. There is also a nice spa.

Finally, our room was large and comfortable, with many well-thought items for use. Of course, it is pricier than other hotels in the area, but you get what you pay for.

We enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: We stayed in the rooms at the further edge of the lodge (the brown color rooms, not the adobe red on...

“Tranquil and Beautiful Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This is a beautiful and tranquil place. The rooms were spacious and clean, although I wish they had more lighting. The grounds with the wandering llamas were immaculately kept. The spa down by the river had a fantastic view in the pool while you waited for your massage. The massage was relaxing and worth the money. The meals in the lodge were delicious. I do not have one bad thing to say about this lodge and would love to visit again. We came here to relax and visit the canyon to see the Andean Condors.
