“Out of season so a little less sharp with service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2009

I think I would rather have given 3 and a half stars for this as the hotel is actually quite pleasant and our one night experience may not be a fair way of assessing the hotel. It was slightly frustrating because directions were not great, the satnav didn't take us anywhere near where we wanted to be and while the trip from Fiumicino took 40 minutes it took us anothe hour to find the hotel! The fact we arrived in the dark probably didn't help. We called reception for help but were given a blow by blow route from Rome. Despite this shaky start things did get better! If only we'd been told to look for the tree with the lights wrapped round it we would have found it much more easily!

Reception
Friendly and helpful. The promised aperitif did not happen but that was OK. We were given some very interesting booklets about the surrounding area which was very useful.

Room
In the annexe and short distance from reception. Quiet, pleasant and comfortable. The bathroom looked a little dated in its fixtures but was clean.

Food
We booked in at the restuarant for food - it was Saturday night and only 2 other couples were in there. There was no background music and the atmosphere was a little cold. We were actually dissuaded from our choice of food which was perhaps a mistake as the portion size was typically small. Food was lesser quality than I would have expected but still edible. The bill was huge in proprtion to the quality of te food and in all the hitels we stayed in was the least good value for money.

Location
Quite a way outside of Sutri, but a convenient drive from Rome airport. Comparatively this was one of the more expensive hotels we stayed in. Not a bad starting point for our trip around Tuscany

“Brilliant Hotel”

When we arrived at the hotel, we were stunned to discover the beatiful grounds in which it is set.
The only problem at the beginning of the holiday was the weather, but the staff were very accommodating, helpful, and made you feel at home. Hotel meals were beautiful, chef also a good laugh, and again very helpful to us. Easy access to local villages, an ampitheatre and restaurants. We spent one day about 40 minutes away in an outdoor natural spa, and visited lots of lakes - Lago de Bracciano was stunningly clean and well preserved.

When the weather picked up towards the end of the holiday, it was extremely peaceful to sit out and take in the hotel's beatuiful settings.

“Ideal stop over when arring or leaving from Rome”

Arrived in Rome late pm and didn't want to stay at an airport hotel. Roughly 32 miles out of Rome is this wonderful 4 star hotel. Fantastic grounds and comfortable lounge, bar and outside dining area. Room was spacious and cool. "mins away is the etruscan town of Sutri - near enough to visit for an hour or 2 before dinner. Dinner itself excellent value and the Chef helpful and accommodating. We wished we could have stayed longer and will if flying into or out of Rome and require an overnight stop!

“A beautiful and friendly hotel”

The Borgo di Sutri is a wonderful four-star hotel on the outskirts of the Etruscan-Mediaeval village of Sutri in southern Viterbo province. There are lovely double rooms and five suites, the latter I would definitely recommend. The buildings originally formed part of an aristocratic country estate, including a little church. The owners are very friendly and helpful as is the staff. The grounds are huge which was perfect for walking our dog. The hotel's restaurant and bar are excellent and highly recommended. Other restaurants are located in the nearby village, one of which I'd recommend is called "Il Vescovado." We paid 120 euros per night for the suite which included an ample breakfast.

  • Liked — Quality of rooms and common areas, grounds.
  • Disliked — A pool would be nice for summer-time stays.
