“Could be Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We stayed 5 nights here and whilst the room was very confortable and spacious and the grounds were pleasant there is not a true welcoming atmosphere.
The Main Waitress/ maid etc, was very helpful and spoke good english, but the insistence by the owner that breakfast could not be taken before 9am is odd in area that is for walkers who wish to get out promptly.
The breakfast was fine but the evening meals were simple without any choice.

Room Tip: A room near the lounge / bar area.

“Not Good!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

I can only echo all the bad review for this Hotel......it seems to be a very 'hit and miss' affair......and not worth the 'miss' option! The owner on our arrival was abrupt and unfriendly ...the room we had faced onto the road ...No 2...noisy neighbout vans...but most of all it was very 'low ceilinged' and 'poky'. The bath was riduculous...as the shower screen would not allow you to reach the taps which were only shower taps ....so the bath took an age to fill with enough water...and the shower screen itself needed a good clean. The breakfasts were OK.....and we did not eat dinners ..as we were told by other guests that they left 'something' to be desired!. Instead we found a super Rest. in Matrional called El Martel and eat there . the picnics at the Hotel turned out to be expensive....E8 pp......as opposed to other hotets at E3.50pp.....We owuld not stay there again.

Thanks for the comments about the stay in our Hotel.
We would like to receive them during the stay to can improve our services, because we ask always at the end of the stay to our guetss and all is ok and good until that we find this reviews here.

If the guest has some problem with the room during the stay and we know it, we can change them of room....
About the bath of the room, it was renovated the last summer and it is new so we do not understand the word "ridiculous". We haven´t received never any reclaim about it. You can see photos about them in our website.
About the price of the pic nic, it consists in a triple sanwich, an egg, one juice, a chocoloate and a youghourt, so we don´t think that it is expensive. If you go to a supermarket the price of all of it is the same.

“Not to be recommended”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2011

Rather out of the way to get to. In the end, not as rural as it sounds, being surrounded by conurbation, so it feels rather cramped. Admittedly, the building is rustic and has charm. The owner is unhelpful - reluctant to turn on the heating as the rooms were cold and damp on arrival. In the evening, the place appeared abandoned, as the communal areas were dark and unlit, and it was difficult to find anyone. During our stay, the owner was away in las Palmas, leaving the property in the hands of her help (who was pleasant, and competent). The food was mediocre.

“Great Hotel shame about the Dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

We stayed at Las Calas after booking a walking holiday with Inntravel. The hotel is quietly located a few kilometres frim San Mateo, first impressions were what a charming place, however the owner's welcome was incredibly abrupt really more interested in making sure we checked in quickly and went straight to the dining room for dinner at 7pm.
The rooms are good, as we had expected for a rural hotel, clean, quiet and comfortable.Breakfast was also good, freshly squeezed Orange juice, cheese, meats, fresh bread, yoghurts and lots more.
We ate dinner on our first night, which really was disappointing, soup, pork with boiled potatoes and a cream pudding. It could be so good with a little more effort and imagination, we did not expect gourmet food but just well cooked and seasoned local food! Also you have to have dinner at 7pm, not later.
The area is fantastic for walking with amazing countryside, flowers, birdlife and really this compensated for the inflexibility of the hotel.
There are restaurants in nearby San Mateo but opening times seem to be a bit vague particularly for dinner midweek. We did find an amazing bodega restaurant in El Madrional called Restaurante Martell, well worth visiting with its own wine cellar and good food and service.
We would return to LasCalas, but definately would not eat there.

“A grateful stay in the centre of the island!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

We stayed this delightful rural hotel, close to the protected areas of Cumbre and Pino Santo, rich in ecosystems and birdlife.
Our room was individually decorated with white wash walls and dark wood, and personal touches from owner, ensure a comfy, personal feel.
Breakfast was buffet style and served in the garden with home made cakes and delicious juices.
There are a few restaurants in the local town of San Mateo, 4kms away to dine out.
Within the gardens not only will you find the 2 resident dogs but also the swimming pool (unheated) with loungers for relaxing, weather permitting.
As this hotel is 1000 meters above sea level, it is cooler than on the coast.

We believe a car is essential here to explore the surrounding area and the island. Ideal location for relax & hikers.
