So, at the airport we were issued with a map of Alicante with "all the hotels" on - slightly disturbed to find Gravina Cinco wasn't on it! Navigated into Alicante on the shuttle bus from the airport and very quickly and easily found the hotel (literally round the corner from the last stop - look for Sol Inn on the map, it's next door).
Gravina is clean and tidy from the outside, and spacious, clean and airy on the inside. Receptionist was slightly aloof (surly on a bad day), but checked us in with minor fuss. Room was a good size, and was immaculately clean. We were at the front of the hotel so had a small balcony - views aren't spectacular (think multiple parked mopeds and a recycling point although we really weren't in Alicante to skulk around a room for a few days), and as the air con wasn't the world's most powerful is was necessary to keep the balcony door open overnight, therefore making us aware of a bit of noise late night (to be honest we didn't find it enough of a problem to bother mentioning to the staff).
Breakfast was more than adequate, breads, cheese, ham, yoghurt, fruit and pastries with coffee and juice (no, there was no fry up, but this is Spain, it is hot, and besides, this is how they do it!) and there was always plenty of everything (even when we came down 20 mins before the end of breakfast time).
Room service was excellent and all the other reception staff were more than obliging - pointing us in the direction of activites in the rain, posting post cards for us, arranging late check out with no fee. There is a "Telepizza" room service offered which we made use of once - external company who deliver to your room with a contract with Tryp group - simple to use, we called reception who placed the order for us and food was there within 30 mins.
All in all we were really happy with our stay, the hotel is in an excellent position for the beach (1.5 mins walk away), the old town with all its cafes, bars and restaurants (30 secs walk away), bus stop (1 min walk away), tram stop (1.5 mins walk away) and castle.
