Excellent city centre location, clean, friendly staff. The street noise woke us and breakfast is quite expensive. If you pass on the breakfast there are a few nearby cafes which will serve tostada and coffee for a third of the price.

Having read the other positive reviews, and having stayed at other NH hotels I booked this hotel with a degree of confidince. We were soon to be disappointed. We had asked for a non smoking room and the receptionist even asked us again on our arrival at 1 in the morning. We realised after a few hours sleep that we were in a smoking room - the bed clothes stank of nicotine. Even worse, we were scratching our legs and discovered 5 or 6 bites (presumably bed bugs) the next morning. The room itseld was airless, claustophobic, and looked onto a dull backyard.

We changed rooms the next day - a slight improvement but still a dark and dingy atmosphere. The cleaners don`t do their job properly, unusually for Spain, and spend all their time spraying air freshener in the corridors and rooms to cover up bad smells. We found hairs on the bed and in the bathroom.

Needless to say we cancelled the rest of our stay and found somewhere more comfortable but perhaps Alicantes`s mass tourism is the reason for these shortcomings and cynical attitudes because I have never encountered these problems elsewhere in Spain.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights at c€59/night. The hotel is in a great location, about 5 mins away from the tourist information centre, the C6 bus which takes you to Alicante airport for €2.60 (single fare) is across the road, a taxi rank is a few mins walk from the hotel, it is near the Mercado Central (for Spanish ham/sausages etc) and it's about a 10-15mins walk to the beach/harbour. I highly recommend getting a map of the area from the tourist information centre on your first day in Alicante, and I also highly recommend asking them to book you onto a Segway tour (€45/2 hrs), it is an unbelievable experience and you get to see the area with a tour guide. Back to the hotel - the room has an air con system which makes it akin to a fridge in next to no time - which is fabulous when it is 35 degrees outside and you've just been on the beach! The only downsides to the hotel are probably as follows 1) the room is a tad on the small side (but no big deal) 2) they do not provide you with tea/coffee/kettle facilities, 3) there is no iron/ironing board and 4) internet is not free. However, I think you are allowed to have free coffee/tea downstairs between the hours of 7am-11am. Today we made the mistake of going to have the breakfast buffet at 7.30am-ish. The local police (Guardia de Civil Trafico) must have a special deal with the hotel because we saw about 10 of them this morning (some were armed) which somewhat made breakfast a daunting experience. Maybe avoid this time slot if you plan to have the breakfast buffet. All in all - the price is fantastic, the hotel is in a decent state and the hotel is in a great location.

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of August 2009. The friendly and helpful reception staff let us check in early (around midday) and also looked after our bags on our last day. We took the airport bus both ways for €2.60 each, the bus stop is just outside the hotel front door.

Although the hotel is 2 mins walk away from the busy old town is was very quiet, we were only disturbed once by a group of people shouting in the early hours!

Our room was great value for money, we paid €45 per night, room only. The rooms are not characterful or luxurious but are extremely clean, comfortable, bath with shower over, nice toilettes provided.

We had breakfast in the hotel one day, this is a treat at €12.50 each but the offering was great - fresh coffee, selection of fruit juices, cold meats and cheeses, breads, pastries, cakes, cereals and fresh fruit. Enough to fill you up as 'brunch and they serve until midday on Saturday and Sundays!

If you want a very central hotel in Alicante, close to the beach, restaurants and night life then you won't go far wrong than to stay here.
