“Very bad service and hotel operations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed for three nights over New Years in the Schlosshotel. While the building is stunning, the hotel operations are not up to standard, especially given the price. Let me start in order. When we arrived the sink was broken. Unfortunately, no maintenance was on side so that it took several iterations to get this fixed. Well, this can happen in a good hotel and it was finally fixed. However, this was only the start of a very unfortunate weekend. Next, we discovered that the TV did not really work. After asking several times for this to be fixed, we were finally told that due to lightning in 2010 (!) picture quality had been bad in all rooms. But, we were assured they had identified the problem and were working on it (since 2010?). The second day, my wife’s pajamas had disappeared (she left them on the bed). By the way, room service would never fold the pajamas but just leave them on a heap. She searched her luggage, looked under the mattress and behind the furniture. She did not find the pajamas, but instead a used handkerchief under the mattress and dirt behind the furniture. We called the front desk to ask whether they could kindly check with room service if they had accidently taken them. The second day we were in the room when room service was there and I can see how they just take all the sheets in a bunch and remove my pajamas with it!!! If I wouldn’t have pointed this out to the cleaning lady, my pajamas would have been gone as well. At this point, my wife is upset and goes down to the front desk (they had not gotten back to us on the missing pajamas). Unfortunately, the lady at the front desk is extremely unfriendly and defense, but finally offers my wife to not charge for breakfast. When my wife tells me, I am very surprised since I had already paid cash for breakfast! Now I have to go down to the front desk and they give me a lame explanation for the mistake instead of an excuse. We are finally reimbursed about 110 Euros (we spent about 1000). We were told they would check laundry for the missing pajamas but never heard back.
To summarize: Almost comically bad service and management. The location is amazing, but there are other beautiful options with better service nearby. Food was ok for the price but nothing extraordinary.

Thank you ever so much for your comment. We do appreciate you taking your time to report about your stay and deeply regret that it left such a bad impression on you. Rest assured we take your comments very serious and have already taken steps to rectify our shortfalls as commented.

However in this particular case we would also love to express our disappointment of some of your descriptions. We certainly expressed our regrets and apologised for all the inconvenience caused. Waving the breakfast charge together with the re invitation to the hotel extended by our duty manager was a gesture to reinstall your faith into the service we provide.
While of course it is not acceptable that we have not paid attention to your belongings when making your bed in the first place, we got back to you right away after the laundry opened from the bank holiday and sent you the pajama back to the US in due course 3 days after your departure.

It would be our absolute pleasure to welcome you back to the Schlosshotel and I would be delighted if I could look after your stay personally. It is our absolute aim to make the stay of our guests most memorable and we would appreciate if you could give us the opportunity to convince you of the Schlosshotel Kronberg. Please just get in contact with us when travelling back to Kronberg again and we will be of your immediate assistance.

Looking forward to your email and your next visit to us.

“Living a Dream!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

people found this review helpful

My husband and I stayed here during the first stop of our tour through Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria in September, 2011. Words really can't describe this experience. I had read a lot about this place before we booked our trip and I was adamant about staying here eventhough flying into Frankfurt took us a bit out of the way with regard to the rest of our planned trip. But, it was soooooo worth it! If you want to feel like royalty and have the experience of really living in a castle, stay here. It's as authentic, historic and old world as it gets, but has every modern amenity (complimentary wifi:), posh interiors, beautiful grounds and a wonderful, attentive staff who were approachable and eager to help but not fawning. This is a very difficult thing to achieve in the service indutry.

Our very large room on the second floor was grand and stunning with a lovely marble bath, sitting area, original leaded glass windows and even a small stone balcony looking out the back of the hotel, across the golf course, gardens and over the Frankfurt skyline beyond. Very romantic.

The common areas are something out of a 19th century history book. So grand and opulent, but yet comfortable. The lobby and main dining room were just gorgeous. We spent every evening after dinner in the piano bar off the lobby watching the expert bartender mix complex concoctions and listening to the wonderful live music.

Before the trip, we had already decided that a dinner in the Schloss' formal dining room was going to be the meal we would treat ourselves to for our 7th anniversary. When we arrived at the hotel the first morning, I asked if we could book a dinner reservation for that evening and the friendly woman at the front desk looked pained and very regretful when she had to tell me that they were fully booked that night due to a large convention in Frankfurt. We were a little disappointed, but quickly booked a reservation for the following evening since we were only there two nights.

The next night, we went down to dinner and truly had the meal of our lives. I was swooning a little over the anticipated cost, but reminded myself that we had budgeted for this. The food was expertly prepared, the service was immaculate and the whole dining experienced was one of those once in a lifetime moments (rivaled only by our honeymoon dinner at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco). We finished dinner and were bracing ourselves for the check when our waiter came over and informed us that our entire dinner was on the house because they were so sorry they could not accomodate us the night before! Shocked and grateful are the words that come to mind. We couldn't thank them enough. Then, when we got back to our room that night, there was a complimentary bottle of Riesling with a note wishing us happy annivesary and apologizing yet again. This was just above and beyond and made our stay there even more magical than it already was.

Overall, this was an experience everyone should treat themselves to once in their life. It was exepensive, but overall, the quality and value of our stay was beyond exceptional!!! Here's another extra special thank you to the wonderful staff of Schlosshotel Kronberg for making our time there extremely memorable!

P.S. The small town of Kronberg which is about 20 mins walking distance from the hotel is charming, quaint and an excellent way to spend a leisurely afternoon.

“A work stay, but I will be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I have stayed in other locations close by Kronberg, due to my work office being close by. This was certainly the best experience so far: the hotel location is great and all the staff I encountered were extremely polite and helpful. I certainly plan to return here next time I am in Kronberg and hopefully with my family also. Based on my verbal recommendations, a number of my colleagues will be staying here soon and I am sure they will enjoy the stay as much as I did. Unlike some other hotels, simple things like complimentary wi-fi, fruit and mini bar is the finishing touch!

Room Tip: Will update after my 2nd trip...

“If you want to experience the best that Germany has to offer..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

I could never have afforded to stay here but I was lucky that there was a huge book fair in Frankfurt and most every hotel was booked. I therefore was 'forced' to stay here and oh my was it spectacular. It was grand in every measure imaginable. It featured a lot of historical displays and well-kept grounds. Just keep in mind that the rooms are not air conditioned in the summer, at least not the one that I stayed in. Despite the grandeur, it was not stuffy; the hotel staff were very friendly. Kronberg is a quaint German town. Stay here if you can.

“"Neighborhood" hotel and restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We are very lucky. Near us are 3 5 star hotels, all with restaurants, spas and various seasonal programs. Das Bessere ist der Feind des Guten. The restaurant in the Schlosshotel Kronberg surpassed all expectations. On 11.11.11 we had a white gloved, many courses goose dinner, with a St. Emilion that while young 2008, went down smooth as satin. The bartender mixed perfect very generous drinks. The muscians in the bar played to the audience and seemed to love what they do. We have never stayed in a room because we live close by. However, we look forward to working our way through the seasonal offerings, from concerts, to BBQ's (in the winter, if that isn't a challenge), a Viennese type ball in early Spring and Sunday afternoon teas. There are also children's programs. Too bad our children are too old to participate. As one says in parlance, "bang for the bucks," (the prices): fair for what it is and the professionality of the service, which is friendly and attentive, but not hovering. What best describes the hotel is perhaps the feeling one reads about in books or magazines that refer to the time of the grand hotels, when generations in a family met at a hotel for whatever the occasion and returned year after year.
