“Overpriced & Worst food ever seen/tasted”

We booked for this hotel throughout a travelling agency, and I admit we didn't checked TripAdvisor for comments from previous "Aggionisi" guests, but only after we arrived to Ammouliani Aggionisi, and our expectations failed. :)

We stayed there 7 nights, and we payed for full board, including dinner. BIG MISTAKE..

The big price paid for a room per night was so high compared to the conditions offered, as the hotel doesn't act as 4 stars hotel.
We made the big mistake of paying for dinner, which is the worst food we tasted in our lives. (see photos)
Each time we left the plates untouched, as the food didn't just LOOK BAD, but TASTED EVEN WORSE.

The restaurant was serving food so bad that it reminded us of the food that we were eating as students.
Each evening we ended up eating in small tavernas around the island.

The breakfast was poor and the "hot" plates were looking as bad as the dinner was. Fruits were served ok.

The other negative point for this hotel was some of the staff. One of them was totally unfriendly, acting like they are making you a favour by serving you a coffee.
The rest of the staff were nice, and friendly.

The room was ok, but filled up with little insects. Every morning we woke up with marks on our skin (and it was not because of a mosquito!) :).

The island is nice, but is not worth staying more than 3 days there, and it is definitely not worthed paying the price Aggionisi is pretending to its customers.

I would definitely not recommend this "resort" to anyone that visits this place.

“Beautiful island, great beaches, hotel falls short of 4 stars”

My friend and I booked this place last minute and made the mistake to pay for full board. Breakfast was good, but dinner was a disaster every single time. We ended up eating at the small tavernas in and around town. The mattresses were old and uncomfortable, bathrooms were just ok. This lacking in accommodations was compensated by the beautiful nature, pristine beaches and friendly staff. This is the place to go if you want to enjoy peace and quiet with a book on the beach.

“Don't pay for dinner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2009

This hotel is not a spa facility, as advertised, the spa consisted of one bathtub and a treadmill, we went a few times, found no one there, (this was the high season, August 15)
We paid 180 euros a night, full board, for three nights, we left the second night and went someplace else in Chalkidiki. The dinner was awful, (and I eat anything!!!) We started to order off the menu, until we were asked by the waiter (not his fault, it's the hotel policy) if we were full board customers, we said yes, and he gave us another menu, fixed meal. Okay, fine, we thought, but when the plates started coming, we were in shock. (see photos) . On vacation, we always pay for full board, this is the first time I couldn't eat a thing.(Again, I am known for being able to eat anything!!!) I tried, really I did!!! Horrible. The waiters and waitresses are very nice, accomodating, but their poor hands are tied. The breakfast, however, was wonderful, basically anything one would want for breakfast.. fruits, cereals, eggs, hams, bread, croissants, etc. Pay for breakfast, (I think it was included anyway). It's worth it.
One more thing, Greeks like to rest in the afternoons, a Greek run hotel would generally know that and would not have the cleaning staff and the guy who checks the fridge knock on the door at 3 and 4 in the afternoon and wake us up...I've NEVER seen this anywhere else. (We left the room at 8 am, left the key at reception, and came back between 2 and 3 to shower, nap, etc. only to be woken up twice by this big inconsideration. (This is Greece, after all) The room was empty both days for 6 hours...We were planning another vacation in early September with 6 other people, our plans were for the Agionissi resort, but we changed plans and went to Parga instead. Good thing we went beforehand and saved our friends the misery. (Four rooms for 5 nights would have been good business, had they been a little more considerate with their dining options and respect of the afternoon siesta hours) Their loss...
Also, the parking lot was dark, no lights to find your car...(we had trouble finding it, since the lot was full, and we ventured out to eat after that terrible excuse for a dinner that was served to us. I must say, I loved the staff, always with a smile, and asking if you needed anything...nice group of people....

“Overpriced, bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

We booked this hotel for our 4-night stay. We were quoted a price of 108 euros per night, and were told that it is a 4 star hotel. Being in an off-the-beaten-path island the price seemed reasonably for a 4 star hotel, and we decided to stay there, just to enjoy the small luxuries that come with a 4 star hotel (restaurant, bar, pool, etc etc).

Unfortunately, the hotel is simply a glorified rooms-to-let property. Apparently a hotel chain has bought it recently and tries to upgrade it to a 4 star hotel, by checking the list of requirements for such a hotel. So, while in name the hotel does have a mini bar, a pool, and all the other required amenities, the quality of those is at the absolute minimum. The rooms were ok but clearly has not been renovated for quite a while: old beds, small TV, and decoration from the 70's. The bathroom was renovated, apparently as part of the effort to upgrade the hotel. The restaurant was serving food so bad that it reminded me the food that we were eating as students in the residence halls. The hotel was also understaffed with one receptionist and one waiter serving the whole restaurant, bar, and the pool area. It was very clear that they were there just because they needed a job; absolutely no pretenses of being hospitable or even giving a smile. I started missing the impersonal, corporate hospitability of the hotel employees in the US, given personalized indifference of the staff in this hotel...

Overall, I would not mind the shortocomings of the hotel if the price was 50% less, and in line with the other accommodation options in the island
(which is nice, quiet, with some nice beaches). But that hotel was advertising itself as a "spa, luxury destination" which is clearly not.

For potential visitors: make sure to check the other options for accommodation. Also make sure to have some form of transportation. The island is small (~5Km is the *maximum* distance) but I think that having a vespa, bicycle, or a car would make the stay much more enjoyable.

In terms of beaches: Alykes is the "highlight" of the island, an island in a nice small gulf, protected by the strong winds. The beach of the hotel is small and isolated, and awarded a Blue Flag. There are a couple of beaches accessible through an unpaved road by continuing south for 2Km from the road that leads to the hotel. Karagatsi is another beach, accessible from a paved road from the main village; beware, no umbrellas available there, only a small canteen. There is also a beach in the north, and you may want to visit the uninhabited islands near Ammouliani by taking the boat that departs every day from the main village.
