“Surprisingly Cosy!!”

Stayed at this hotel for one night on the way to Pamplona and San Sebastian. The historic small town of Sos Del Rey Catolico sits on a hill and the hotel is right before the entrance into town. It was very quiet when we were there and the check-in staff took care of us in a heartbeat. We were given two coupons redeemable at the hotel bar. Despite the spartan lobby, everywhere else in the hotel was beautifully done. Our room was clean and it didn't look a day old. It looked like it was recently redone with flat screen TV and new wooden furniture. Our room had a view of the plain below and the evening sun made the view so much more scenic. There was also a very nice lounge on the floor with the bar and the restaurant. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner but we did have breakfast and it was certainly much better than we expected. Service was swift and very friendly. Food was extremely edible.

The evening of our arrival, we ventured into town and it was certainly postcard picture perfect. Since it was cold, no one was out and about and we literally had the entire small town to ourselves. We walked along the cobbled streets without a map and we accidentally walked into the compound of a small cathedral where upon walking further up the hill we chanced upon a tower and a small park, and from there, we had a nice view of the entire town. Simply unforgettable.

Of the three parador-s (bielsa, la seu d'urgell and sos del rey catolico) we stayed, this was by far the best.

“A beautiful location for a quiet rest”

My wife and I were badly in need of a quiet break and decided hopefully on Sos after reading reviews. If you want to go back in time to a slower pace, this village is close to ideal and the Parador fits in relatively unobtrusively. Although we initially had problems with the air-conditioning, after mentioning this to the very helpful Manager, the problem was immediately sorted out to our entire satisfaction. The only disappointing aspect was the food and service in the restaurant, but I understand that this is now being sorted out. For a quiet week of relaxation, we would definitely go back.

“Perfect Stopover in idyllic and Romantic Hotel at SOS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2009

Sos is a little off the beaten track but well worth the visit. This is a wonderful hotel with old fashioned service. Staff could'nt have been more cheerful and helpful. At check-in we were asked if were members of the "Amigos del Parador" scheme. we were given a membership card together with an invitation for a free drink at the bar. We were given a delightful room albeit we had booked on a special offer internet room rate. The bathroom was palatial with the usual excellent selection of toiletries, extra pillows and blankets. Our experience of Paradors has always been that the food does not always match up to the surroundings. However, on this occasion we decided to eat at the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the fillet steak and my partner the fish and both were cooked to perfection. We had a bottle of the recommended Ribera del Duero red wine which at 14 euros was a bargain. Breafast was also a delight with a varied and excellent buffet. There was an issue with the wi-fi connection in the room due to violent storms the previous day. However, the Manager invited me into his office to check my e-mail and could'nt have been more helpful. This is one hotel we will definitely be returning to.

“A must visit location”

Standard Parador on the outskirts of the town but close enough.

Good parking - unsecured, but village location so should be safe.

Rooms (standard) a bit on the small side but very large public areas including a fantastic terrace overlooking the surrounding area.

Restaurant standard Parador fare, excellent desserts and reasonable breakfasts.

The town is outstanding and the mosaics in the crypt of the romanesque church truely great.

“Good Hotel, But Some Problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

We stayed on a Saturday night, and it is a very nice hotel in an exquisite hilltop setting. Parking is free and ample. However, when we checked in on this warm (near 80 degrees) mid-May day, the air conditioning system had not been turned on, and our room was almost unbearable. With the windows open and a nice rain later that evening, the room did cool down acceptably. When I initially complained about how warm our room was, the front desk staff just shrugged it off. Parador hotels are fairly expensive compared to other hotels in Spain, so I would have expected the rooms to be better climate-controlled (certainly by mid-May). Our room was modern with all the conveniences, but by no means would I call it luxurious.

The view from the terrace bar is great, but after waiting for service for 10 minutes, we got up and left. Overall, the service appears to be rather unfriendly (like a typical business-oriented hotel). Dinner in the restaurant was good, though nothing unique. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, and the buffet was very good. The town is beautiful, with lots of history, but no monuments of any special note. The hotel itself is 20th century, but fits in well with the surroundings. Overall, a nice place to stay, but not a real good value and a little disappointing for us.
