We had stopped briefly in Sos del Rey Catolico a number of years earlier on our way to Olite. This time we decided to stay, and glad we did. The parador was actually nicer then we recalled, built in a style that perfectly fit the medieval town in which it is located.
The rooms were comfortable, attractively painted with good views of the countryside, particularly from those with a balcony. While the restaurant itself was not in itself special, the terrace outside was comfortable with nice chairs and space to enjoy the sunshine. Dinner was particularly good, the best of the five paradors we stayed at during this trip. Every dish was well presented and very tasty. The buffet breakfast was as at other paradors - a wide selection including a few local items, excellent quality and choice.
Sos del Rey Catolico is a fascinating compact medieval village, although without restaurants, shops etc. It is also a short drive to nearby Siguesa and approx. 45 minutes to Pamplona, through beautiful countryside.
Parador de Sos del Rey Catolico is an excellent choice as to a place to stay should you be in this part of Spain.
