“Not four star”

Hotel itself was clean with a nice pool area reception staff helpful and friendly but thats were it ends.
We paid £100 extra for upgrade of room (was not worth it) Safe was broken.Shade on one of the lights was broken. Hospitality tray had thin plastic tea cup which melted when hot water was poured in. Milk was sour. Bath robes were so rough you could have scoured a pan with them. The sliding bathroom door had all the fittings in the door for catch, lock, ect but there were no fittings in the door frame whatsoever. Hence the bathroom door could not be closed properly. The bathroom was decent enough and so was the balcony but if this was one of the best rooms it sadly fell way way below par.
The food is not very good.
One night after we had been on a day trip we were slightly late for evening meal and were one o fthe last left in restaurant all the staff disappeared into the kitchen and we were left sitting there waiting for our dessert we decided to give up after 15 mins.
If its quiet and out of the way you are looking for, then this hotel is for you. There is a pleasant outside seating area and the bar area is quite modern but it was practically empty every night except for the poor bedraggled Mynah bird in the corner.
When we we were there, i would say peak season, come 10.30 the place was deserted.
Very little in the way of entertainment and there is no where to go outside of hotel unless you get the bus down the HILL! more like a mini mountain. Much better in Riva feel like your back in civilisation so probably worth tackling the hill, its just that after a days sight seeing a stroll outside of hotel is preferable to waiting around for buses. Never saw hotel bus while we were there and was not told about it, but running only once a day probably would not have been much use anyway .
Our last day in the hotel was like the final nail in the coffin. A large group of 40 to 50 people arrived .
In the evening in the restaurant we were completely surrounded and felt very uncomfortable. Had we known this beforehand we would not have booked this hotel and had it been early on into our holiday would have asked to be moved. The holiday company Thomson, whom we booked this holiday with advertise this hotel as 4* but believe me it is not.
Would certainly visit Lake Garda again it is a most beautiful picturesque area and apart from the hotel really enjoyed our stay. A trip to the dolomites is a must if your thinking of visiting this area.
Next time will do it properly and stay in hotel down by the lake. We live and learn!
Hope this has been of some help i am sure this hotel will suit some people just not for us.

“Not for the feint hearted”

Nice clean hotel, however, its a long steep road down to the lake not suitable for walking as there is no pavement. There is a hotel mini bus that leaves at 0915 and picks up at 4.00 pm or you can take a local bus - but they don't run on Sunday. There's not much in Nago so nowhere to take a walk to in the evening and taxis were expensive.

The reception staff were a mixed bag, on our first Sunday I explained that I wanted to take a bus down to the lake and was given a timetable, but they omitted to tell me that no buses ran on Sunday - not good!

Food was OK, but unimaginative and the vegetarian option every single night of our week stay was omelette!!! Not what I expect from a 4-star European hotel. Don't expect much choice either - there's just one alternative to the pasta and main course. You do get a free carafe of wine and bottle of wine with your dinner - unless you are a single traveller when you get nothing!!??

Would I recommend this hotel - NO

“Poor location but perfectly nice hotel”

This hotel is situated 1 mile up a really really steep hill away from the lake. The hotel bus takes you down the hill at 9.15a.m. and collect you again at 4p.m. to take you back up (be quick because he does not hang around). Public buses run during the day but finish at 7.30 p.m. so forget the idea of a walk along the lake side in the evening unless you can face that hill!!! I am young and would class myself as reasonably fit but that hill is hard work. Reality of this hotel is that once there you are stuck for the evening and there is nothing else around.

“Clean, friendly family run Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

We visited the Hotel Continental at the end of August, early September 2010 as part of a large Christian group who had been to the Passion Play in Oberammagau. This was the second part of our holiday.

My wife & I were very impressed overall with the Hotel, the clean rooms, good facilities ( indoor & outdoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, sauna and Internet access. The Reception area is well manned and controlled by "Grandma" Tonelli who has the eyes of a Hawk and misses nothing, The bar was well furnished, there is free Coffee & cakes at 4pm on the Terrace, the staff are very patient and attentive - which they had to be dealing with a large group, some of whom were somewhat elderly.

Any bad points ? - just a few - No ramp at reception, thus making carrying cases to Reception difficult - especially for the elderly.

No Tea / Coffee making facilities in the room - a "must" for most Brits who don't function in the morning until at least 1 cup of Tea !

The "hot" breakfast isn't really ready until about 45 mins after Breakfast begins - it needs to cook, if one serves oneself before this it isn't very nice..

The outdoor pool doesn't seem to be heated - thus it can be quite cold - possibly a good thing as one swims quickly, then gets out to let others in !

It is quite a long way from the Lake - but there is a free Shuttle Bus, there is also a bus stop about 300 yards away which runs regularly down to Torbole for one Euro - it is also a pleasant walk down to Torbole - there are several ways down - if you want to keep fit walk back up as well !.

It's easy to lock oneself out on your balcony !

Enough of the negative - overall my wife & I really enjoyed the Hotel. It has a family run atmosphere, the staff are excellent, overall the food is very good ( make sure you sit in the same place for Dinner - as this is ordered at Breakfast ! ).

“Poor customer service marred our stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

Arrived with one curtain missing from room on a Friday and customer service very poor. Was told that couldn't do anything until Monday and receptionist very curt and quite hostile lacking any customer focus. Volunteered to change it myself so I could get some sleep and was completely stunned by complete unwillingness to do anything. After getting rep involved the attitude changed but wasted a lot of my personal time when the room shouldn't have been let in that condition. New curtain put in on Saturday.
Other than that all other hotel staff polite, it's such a shame that one person can do so much damage. Fine to stay in providing there aren't any problems at the weekend - beware.
