We visited La Villa for a short stay as part of our honeymoon trip in August 2011.
The setting is bucolic and very peaceful with plenty of nice places to visit nearby - would definitely recommend La Morra if you like wine!
Our room was one of the higher up spec rooms and had a large bathroom with a good shower. The room itself was fine but not exceptional given its Junior Suite status - the lounge area was quite dark and not really conducive to relaxing as it was remote from the bedroom. The room was very clean and stylishly decorated.
The food was very good and decent value. Also a nice range of local wines are available to suit most budgets. Restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and it's well worth heading out to some of the local alternatives - the owners are very helpful in this regard and gave us directions as well as making the booking for us.
The driveway is very bumpy and not really suitable for sports cars, but there is ample parking and most cars will be absolutely fine.
The pool area is very nice but you will need to get there early to bag a lounger, although this is normal for the time of year so not a criticism of La Villa.
Would we go again? Perhaps, although my main reservation isn't related to the hotel per se. It seems that being British themselves, the owners have attracted a heavily Bristish clientele. Not a big problem but listening to a loud mouth Cockney swearing at breakfast isn't my idea of sophisticated hotel atmosphere! This was probably a one-off and not the owners' fault but it still took the edge of our stay.
Think of La Villa as a smart, stylish Country Inn rather than a 4/5 star hotel and you won't be disappointed. I'd recommend sticking to the smaller rooms, using other restaurants for some of the time and hitting a few vineyards (you'll definitely need a car). I also think off-season in this area would be fantastic.
