“Absolutely amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

After a horrible night at a hotel in Bologna without any sleep and a two hour trainride, my friend and I arrived at the amazing Villa Matarazzo! It was almost like a fairytale when we drove up the road and got the first glimps of the yellow building, the surrounding park and in the distance The Gradara Castle.
The staff was the most friendly and helpfull staff I personally have ever experienced at a hotel. They welcomed us - almost - with open arms! During our stay they would literally go out of their way to please us and help us have a nice stay.
The hotelbuilding was so beautiful with many, many special details in the decor and pleasant relaxing areas.
My friend and I each had a very modern, nice, clean and quite large room compared to single rooms in other hotels. The bed was comfortable and - again - a bit larger than in other hotels. The room had all the facilities I needed: Aircondition, safe, desk, TV and minibar. The bathroom aswell was extraordinary clean, modern and with all the facilities needed. The room was light and pleasant with a nice large window overlooking part of the park and pool area - aswell as the Gradara Castle in the distance.
The surrounding park was a beautiful and quiet place - great for relaxing, walking, and just getting "grounded". The pool area was also so nice and clean - I can only wish we could've been more lucky with the weather so we could have used the pool a bit more!
Breakfast was very fresh with a nice variety of fruits, cakes, bread, cereals etc. Each morning we were greeted by a very helpful member of the staff, who offered us coffee and made sure that we did not go hungry from the breakfast table!
The hotel is situated in a small village only about 10 minutes by car from Cattolica and a little shorter to Gradara Castle area. We did not travel by car so we were dependant on taxis which worked out very fine. One morning we went hiking by the road up to Gradara Castle - it took about and hour and it was a very nice and beautiful hike through small villages and the gorgeous surroundings of undulating fields.

I would not hesitate to go back and would again like to highlight the very helpful, english speaking staff that made our stay so wonderful.

“Seemed nice but...”

We selected this hotel in order to attend the Rossini Opera festival in Pesaro because of what we saw on their website as well as on the Michelin guide.
First the good things about this hotel. The hotel is composed of several Mediterranean style buildings with bright colors on a hill dominating the sea with a beautiful view of Gradara and its castle. The atmosphere is very peaceful compared to the agitation of the crowded coastal cities.
Another pleasant feature is the presence of a nice and large swimming pool. Breakfast included in the room price was OK.

Now the not so good features.
First, we made a reservation for a junior suite with a balcony. The junior suite was a medium size room which got its name due to the presence of an armchair and a coffee table.
The main problem however was not the size of the room but the temperature which was barely lower that the outside temperature thanks to the presence of a cacochymous air conditioning system whose noise was directly proportional to the room temperature.
Complaining about that, we were moved to a much smaller but cooler room next door. The next day when we discussed with the manager the issue of the rate we would pay for a smaller room without a view, he told us that he was selling junior suites twice as much as the promotional rate we were paying and therefore we should be happy to be able to enjoy one of his standard rooms. The result was that for the first time in our long lives, we have been downgraded!
After the second night, we were moved in a slightly larger room with air conditioning problems, although less severe than in the "junior suite". In addition, we could not open the windows because mosquitoes were everywhere
However, this is too bad because this hotel has potential.
Would we go back? Probably not.
