The family that operates this establishment are very friendly people and they make you feel like you are part of their family during your stay. I found this place while working on the US Army post of Hohenfels. It is only a fifteen minute drive from the military installation. The apartments are perfect for anyone staying for an extended period. My balcony overlooked the Vils and Naab rivers which join in Kallmünz. The view of the castle from my balcony was like that seen on a postcard. The location is perfect for anyone that is sightseeing in Bavaria. Regensburg, Nürnberg and München are within short drives from Kallmünz. I look forward to my next visit to the Pension im Malerwinkel.

We stayed in Kallmuenz because it was close to Hohenfels, where we were attending a cycling race. We were pleasantly surprised to find it was one of the most picturesque towns in Germany. The Pension im Malwinkel is a perfect base to eplore this area, and I would recommend doing it by bike. The family that runs the pension are so friendly, and made us feel at home. The rooms are spacious and clean, pretty much brand new. There is a great veiw of the castle ruins from the Malerwinkel. If you are staying for some time, there are rooms with kitchens available and a grocery within walking distance so you can make meals in your room. There is breakfast available as well, and is typical European fare and very good. Really, the center of the village is within walking distance and worth a visit. It is beautiful. There is also a nice hike to be had to the castle ruins. We really enjoyed our weekend here, and want to go back.

I've been fortunate to stay at this lovely pension for the past three weeks. First off, it's in a beautiful little town in Bavaria. The pension itself sits on a hill. My room has a balcony and the view is out over the old town and the castle ruins on the hill. I have a small apartment (ferienwonung) on two levels that is roomy, cheery and very pleasant all 'round. The breakfast and room cleaning come extra with this kind of room. The room cleaning is reasonable, but the breakfast at 7 euros seems a little pricy for a breakfast that's typical of this area. The owners both speak English well and have been very helpful. The hotel also has free internet access that is an added bonus. There are bikes available and lots of places to walk.
