“Beautiful room, clean, accommodating staff”

We stayed at Villas Jazmin for two weeks in a two bedroom villa. The first week my husband and I were alone, friends joined us on week two. Contrary to unfavorable reviews, we found our accommodations especially lovely. We've traveled all over the Caribbean, own 4 timeshares and have specific kitchen needs when we travel. Villas Jazmin met or exceeded our needs. The villa had recently been renovated, the tile work was impressive, the quality of the wood furniture was solid and quality. The rooms were tastefully appointed -- flat screen TV's with cable, the master bedroom had a large jacuzzi tub too (no shower, however -- that was in the common bathroom). The kitchen was more than I'd hoped for - full fridge, 5 burner stove with oven, coffee maker. There is wireless internet free of charge. I was told that 4 units had been renovated (I saw a one bedroom unit, and it was done in the same quality as our two bedroom).

The power on the island goes out daily, however the resort has its own generation, so guests will not be inconvenienced or have their relaxation disrupted. I was charged $80/week energy surcharge, which I was initially put off by; however, after experiencing the frequent power outages I was glad to know my food would not be spoiling, my drinks would be cold and that I could have A/C 24/7. Jazmin is the only restaurant in Costambar with full generation, so there's no need to be concerned about food spoilage. Most of the other restaurants would be shut down by US standards. I was concerned about the negative comments that had been posted, but after seeing the resort, I suspect that the negative comments stemmed from guests in the older units which I did look at also. The rooms are adequate but will benefit from improvements. There are plans for additional renovation, so I expect that in time all units will be brought to the same fine standard. The renovated rooms, I was impressed to discover, are energy efficient. The A/C shuts off when you leave the room. Upon returning and turning the A/C back on, it cools down quickly.

The staff was very accommodating, and the owner was incredibly hospitable to us. He wants to ensure his guests enjoy their experience. We ate dinner there twice - it's quite a large menu - and the chefs, Victor and Jose, were glad to adjust the menu to meet our needs. Jenny on the front desk is very welcoming. There is an additional charge of $10 per week for the room safe if you wish to use it; water is $2 a gallon. They provide beach towels at the front desk. There is a pool -- not large as experienced at the mega resorts, but adequate -- that was kept very clean. The tennis court looked good, and we did see people using it. The workout room had little equipment.

The walk to the beach is about 4 minutes. I recommend breakfast or lunch at the Anchor, run by British folks. It's clean and the food is good. You'll enjoy the local chatter too. At the beach you will need to rent chairs unless you walk down to the Catamaran where Paul will let you use theirs as long as you're buying food or drinks.

Would I stay at Villas Jazmin again? Absolutely. I would be sure to request one of the renovated units.

“Small and peaceful”

We own time share at Villas Jazmin but always trade and had not returned in 16 years because of other commitments and a huge amount of other travel.
We were astonished and thrilled at all the changes since 1994. Our villa was supreme luxury: Full kitchen, two bedrooms and huge living room/dining room.

Repairs done immediately if a problem existed. Ricardo, Yendy and Victor are superb. The meal plan @ $200.00 USD per person per week is excellent. Excellent food.

Beach a short walk away. Not a lot of entertainment in off-season but if you are looking for peace and quiet, this place will heal your soul. They do take you to Lifestyles and to Ocean World for two excellent buffet dinners and also out for breakfasts.

We are delighted with our stay at this RCI resort.

“I absolutely loved this place”

The staff was so helpfull in everyway. We got the meal plan and the food at the Villas was amazng. Totally worth the price of the plan we also got to go to Lifestyles for some meals the food there wasnt half as good but the presentation was nice. We enjoyed the shows at both places. I would never stay at Lifestyles the sales staff was constantly after us and got very nasty when we werent interested I couldnt imagine a week of that. However at the Villas we asked for a tour of the new Villas they told us the prices upfront and didnt pressure us at all. And the new Villas were beautifull. Out of all the places Ive stayed over the past 30 years this is 1 I would repeat over and over. I had a great time thanks to the staff Ricardo, Yendy, Victor, Armado, Anna and Willie.

“Everything a sales pitch - Cash is what the local wanted - No Refund”

From the entry of the Costambar was very not what you'd expect ventruing off your vacation. The entry of the Costambar is guarded and a bunch of crowd stands outside. Yes, Jazmin sends a cab $45.00, the cab was so dirty, the cab was not what you'd expect on a vacation. You'd not use this type of cab in US. The staff contradicts each other. They'll scam you for your CASH money. On Refunds when you check-in and ask the REFUND question - They'll say It's not a problem! Not a true satement. Use your credit card & Charge every thing. if you take a chance staying here is on you. Security is of much important to most US travelers. unlike other nationality it's not a big deal. This property needs a lot of updates like TV, Cable - There's not oven or microweave, The rusty pump they put in your space to get water is disgusting - yet at check-in the clerk points to the one in the ofice. When you get to your room it's bottled water you would have to chill in the small refridge.Bring US soap, they have a hard soap that smells not good. I'd wish I read all the one star comment maybe I'd got a better handle of what type of property Jazmin is. The room is very large but that's about it. Please check your beds, spiders, roaches, bring bug spray. The internet is not updated your on a very old CRT that have not worked in months. Everything on the site with the exception on the rooms is tiny. The pool area sits outside from the bar and eating area, again TINY. They say if your not happy they have a sister resort - Don't believe it - Lifestyle Hacienda Vacation VIP CLub is not a sister resort of theirs - Again this is why I'm detaling - You cannot contact them via their websit. It's always down and not working. Yet the manager talked to you like an idiot. - I have proof of all that I'm saying - Thank Goodness for digital camera. Why lie - proof in America is what set you free! - I've send my documents and waiting to see what's the outcome from RCI. - Good Luck! Remember your in International waters and again, trying to reach RCI, the connection is not good. I was very stress and got ripped off. Please Research and take your time and read. Do not Rush. Don't even take my adivse - Just read all the one rating - Most of what I'm saying is the same 200,2003, ect. - It's 2009 and it's gotten worse. Remember I left Jazmin for another vacation club.

“A Moderate Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2009

My friend and I stayed at Villa Jazmin and found it to our liking. It was small, cozy and the staff made us feel welcomed. It might not be enough for those who want luxury accomodations, though I was told by the mananger that they were upgrading in the coming summer months of 2009. However, for those who want intimate, moderately priced and a "down home" Dominican feel this is a good choice. I would liken it to a NICE Motel 6 versus a stay at a Ritz Carlton.

The beach is about a 3 minute walk and I would recommend that you walk from the gate at the bar/restuarant and go down to the second of the streets and turn right to get to the beach. The reason being is that if you deal with the first man at the end of street number one who rents chairs (he is closest to the bar/dance place) he will rip you off. There is a man who works with Villa Jazmin at the end of the second street (hence my saying to walk down the second street) who charges only $1.50 a chair versus $3.50. As well the "rip off" guy tried to charge us $20.00 for two very subprime Coco Loco drinks! They can be had anywhere for about half of that. So be sure to deal only with the guy with a Villa Jazmin shirt whose name is Neve. ASk at the office at Villa Jasmin if you need verification of what I say.

IF you take meal plan offered by Villa Jazmin, as we did, it includes some side trips and entertainment. ($235.00 per person at the time we were there.) . They work with a sister resort (Lifestyles Hacienda and Ocean World) about 10 minutes away for providing you food and entertainment. It is the "rich man's world" to be sure! We traveled there for a breakfast bruch and of course there was a tour of "Rich man's Land" involved tyring to sell you a piece of the rich man's dream. However, they were decent about backing off when we said we were not interested. Later that same evening we were taken back to a wonderful dinner out under the stars on an ocean cliff with a live band and tons of food, served buffet style. They send vans to pick you up for all activities. Then on Thrusday night we were taken to the Ocean World Marina and entertainment complex for dinner. Very snazzy place! They had a buffet of snacks. sushi and desserts, well presented and all the drinks you wanted. A live band played as welll during the dinner hour. Then after dinner we were taken to see their Las Vegas style show, Bravissimo, up on the third floor. It was beautiful...the costumes were gorgeous. However, let the people with children and those easily embarrassed beware. There was no such thing as full coverage on those gals in the show! Dominicans like to shake their bare booties, let me just say that. Thongs were the things to be sure! The meal planned also included a Domincan buffet on Friday night back at Villa Jazmin with a local band and dancers coming in to entertain us. The dancers were young and very energetic. I thought it the best show I had seen since they were so real and ernest about what they were doing.

The staff...we absolutely liked every one of them we dealt with. We found them to be helpful. They spoke enough English that we had no problems understanding each other and they seemed to want to please us and took interest in us. So here is a shout out to Ricardo (mananger), Victor (supervisor/bartender), Roberto (breakfast/bartender), and Jendi (Office gal). You guys made the experience pleasurable. Hope to be back with you again sometime!

Yes, we would go back and hope to when we can save some pennies to do so again. It was worth the cost and we liked small, simple and friendly Villa Jazmin.
