“Very welcoming inn with good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This was just the place after a day's skiing at nearby Glenshee. It's a welcoming inn, with roaring fires in both the bar and the restaurant. Previous reviewer found a lot to dislike in room 3, but having just stayed in it, I can confirm that it has now been newly redecorated. The bathroom is not so modish, but is clean. The food in the restaurant is excellent. Excellent cooked breakfast with choice, included in room rate. The rooms are excellent value (we were on a skiers' special deal), but the drinks and food are bit more pricey (but worth it). Staff were very friendly. I found the place to be nicely atmospheric.

Room Tip: Room 5 (twin) is very spacious and elegant but doesn't have a bath, only a shower. Double aspect...

“lacks atmosphere”

been to this place before and returned for a short break. we have been lucky enough to sleep in a lovely room before but this trip was awful. quite clearly some of the rooms are nicer than others. We were in room three which is honestly stuck in a bad 70s sitcom. decor was horrendous, the bed was uncomfortable, the heating wasn't on when we arrived so the room was freezing. it remained off the whole night and it was one of the worst nights I've had in ages. to top it all we discovered that the bed had a rubber sheet on it which explained why the sweat was pouring out of us despite being so cold. When we complained about the room, they moved us to another one. slightly better decor but no bath and once again no heating. We complained about the rubber sheet as I have never come across this before and we were told that they had to put these on because of health and safety. the heating is on a times so after a days hillwalking we came back to expect a heated room and again, the heating wasn't working. The owner did eventually go to the room to fix it, but by the time it went off again it hadn't been on long enough to heat the room so we spent another freezing night there. After dinner we went for a walk and then a few drinks in another local pub. Came back just after eleven to find the place shut up and there is no front door key attached to the room key, so we had to get the owner up. basically you have to decide if you are going out for the night before you go and leave your key on the hall table. If there's a chance that you're going to change your mind and stay out you run the risk of being locked out. On a positive note the food is lovely as are the owners wife and staff. Very helpful. It is a real shame that all the rooms are not decorated to the same standard and the owner himself cannot provide the same level of service that his staff do.

Room Tip: make sure you don't get room three.ask that the heating is on for you arriving.

“Nice small hotel in the Central Highlands of Scotland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We only stayed one night in this hotel while travelling through Scotland.
It is a nice old house with lots of atmosphere, located in a small village, named Kirkmichael.
It's close to the pictoresque small town of Pitlochry.
To get to Kirkmichael you have to drive through the magnificent central highlands.
The room was beautiful, the bathroom a bit outdated. (In the room of our friends the bathroom was already renewed.) The food was good.

“Great Location and Good Food”

Thoroughly enjoyed our one night here. The food was very good and the Breakfast freshly cooked. The only one we had staying at hotels in Scotland. Being a small establishment I suppose they could do this. Beautiful location. Staff pleasant and friendly.

Very good value compared to others.
