“Business Stop Over”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2012

I booked the hotel to stay overnight on a business trip. The hotel was excellent, it provided a good range of food at reasonable prices, you can eat in the bar or the restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was adequate and comfortable, everything worked. The hotel has free wi-fi in the bar/ restaurant. It was a good value for money stay.

“An archetypal coaching inn in a Cotswold market square”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2012

The setting is idyllic.

The hotel overlooks a spacious Cotswold market square sided by a market hall supporting a chiming clock tower dating to the 1800s. No modern architecture in sight. It is easy to transport back to the years when horses predominated. However inside the well maintained and characterful hotel, memorabilia of the close-by racing circuit of Silverstone reflect more recent history. In the entrance bar/lobby is an open log fire very welcome on the wet day of our arrival. We had the room over the entrance which sported a balcony with iron balustrade to the left of the hotel sign which swung majestically from a halberd in the storm.

In this tempestuous weather the bedroom with luxurious traditional feather bed with walnut foot and headboard, soft pillows and all usual modcons, was irrestible.

Pastries in addition to usual cooked breakfast was nicely different. Service was respectfully old-fashioned and professional; nothing was too much trouble.

The bonus was that bar and meal prices were very reasonable.

The unobtrusive timely attentions of the staff resulted in a very relaxed stay.

Although the weather would have improved the total experience, the hotel and its staff made this stay the best possible.

The grading of our stay could have been excellent except for the fact that the evening menu was restricted due to refurbishment of the kitchens.

“Family gathering”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2012

Visited Brackley for family birthday. The hotel provided the perfect location. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The room was on the small side but had character. Breakfast was great and served very quickly and piping hot.

“Silverstone Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2012

We had booked a driving experience at Silverstone and found the hotel to be ideally placed for our visit, about 15 minutes away from the circuit. The hotel has plenty of character and has some interesting motor racing history photographs and newspaper articles on display.
We had two rooms, both were comfortable, very clean and had tea/coffee making facilities.
We enjoyed a lovely evening meal at a table next to the roaring fire and can honestly say that the bar food was excellent; probably the best tasting steak I have ever experienced served from a bar.
Breakfast was included in the tariff and consisted of cereals and full English or scrambled egg on toast. Again, no complaints about the food or the service.
We found the staff very helpful and polite during our stay and when we mentioned that it was getting a little cold the heating was put on straight away and it remained on all night.
We would definitely stay again.

“Charming Old Classic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2012

If you want a modern box type hotel don't stay here! This is a classic old creaky hotel full of character and eccentric charm! For petrol heads its a must, the history of Silverstone Motor sport is literally every where around you! The bar is inexpensive and friendly, the Breakfast is fantastic! Oh! and they've sorted out the heating!
