“Serene, scenic, solitude in Himalayas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed at the Ramgarh Bungalows for 2 days in January 2012. The accomodation consists of four nicely done up old British bungalows with live fire places that are still operational and add that English charm to the entire room. The room decor is done as per the theme of the room, like Yellow, Green, Butterfly, Bird, English etc. We stayed at English room, which had old fashioned king bed, large oil painting, old pictures, lithographs, wooden wardrobe and of course a fire place.....The verandah outside was perfect for afternoon tea with lovely views. The dining area and recetion is a sepearte block with fruit trees all around and have full panoramic views of himalayan ranges. The food served is amazing and has whole lot of local ingedients (for foodies- pls ask chefs to cook local delicacies). The breakfast is by far the most enjoyable meal and is accompanied with fresh jams, juices and preserves made in house. (The staff would be more than happy to show you around the small production unit stacked with bottles of plum, peach, pear, apple and malta preserves and juices.)
We were lucky enough to experience snowfall during our stay and drove to Mukteshwar in snow.....cann't describe that magical experience.
Staff is very courteous and helpful. The entire team led by Mr Shailender made us feel at home through out the stay.
Its a place where once is never enough.....will have to be back in spring to see the orchards in full bloom.

“A Nap at hills Lap...Ramgarh Bungalows!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We have visited this place recently...it has an amazing location on hills which is beyond the imagination. If you get the feel of owning your super hill house....its a must visit place.
Beautiful view of surrounding hills & orchid garden.

Wonderful food.. especially the morning breakfast in sun shine. We have stayed at Ashok vatika which is on the top hill peak....we danced, drank, ate and celebrated the unforgettable moment of our life.

Though,it was a winter season so couldn't enjoy the fruit orchid around but of course..it will be the only reason for our next visit in April-May this year.

Just loved this place!!!

“Yet to be discovered - "a delightful find "”

Neemrana Bungalows - before I start I have to add that I am addicted to this chain and have become a real fan. This is only the beginning I hope and slowly one is going to make our way through all their resorts and hopefully enjoy each and every one as much as we did on our first stay at the Neemrana fort palace.
We came to the Bungalows after spending a couple of days at Binsar retreat and admittedly it took us a couple of hours to warm to the place as it was so different to our previous resort. We stayed at the Cliff House in Ram Kumar which consisted off a bungalow with two large bedrooms and your own private dining area. There are six different themed bungalows at this resort and each one has a charm of their own, but in our opinion this was the best and had the best views. The beauty of the place and its situation is exemplary and the service and the staff are wonderful. You are really made to feel like you are in a home away from home. Meals are served either outdoors or in the dining area. We just loved eating our breakfast outside in the gardens of Ashok Vatika with breathtaking views. Every morning we went for a run up the hill side and then after breakfast took one of the hotel staff as our guide and went trekking on various guided walks. Thoroughly enjoyed the mountain trek to Mata Devi Temple right on top - fabulous |

Room Tip: Preferred to stay in Ashok Vatika, Cliff House, writers cottage as these are away from the main buil...

“Delightful views over the Kumaon hills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Ramgarh is a beautiful little village scattered across the slopes of the Kumaon mountains and is practically deserted compared to neighbouring Nainital. I visited during the monsoon season, when the hills were lush green and the rivers in full flow. The Ramgarh bungalows consist of a number of colonial-era houses spread out on the hillside between Malla and Talla Ramgarh. We stayed in room Iris in Vista Villa, which, along with Rose Cottage, is on the same estate as the Old Bungalow. The Vista Villa and Rose Cottage rooms seemed to have some of the best views across the valley.

The room was well-appointed and quite comfortable. We did have some trouble with hot water - there never seemed to be enough. Meals are buffet-style and pretty good. There was a TV and a game room as well which, strangely enough, no one told us about and we had to discover for ourselves.

We drove all the way from Delhi, which turned out to be a painful experience. The National Highway till Moradabad is in good shape but the Uttar Pradesh state roads from Moradabad till the border with Uttaranchal are absolutely appalling with enormous ditches, potholes and boulders strewn across the "road".

We stayed for 3 nights; during the days, we took long walks through the mountains and spent the afternoons enjoying the view from the Bungalows. Unfortunately, the trip was slightly marred by very heavy rainfall that started midway through our visit and ended with landslides on all the roads in the Kumaon region as well as heavy flooding in the plains of UP. The staff, which was very helpful in every other respect, gave us pretty shaky advice on when we ought to leave and what we were likely to encounter in terms of driving conditions. I suppose it is hard to predict rainfall patterns in India. The return drive was traumatic and took two days (as opposed to eight hours) because of road obstructions and flooding.

Having said all this, I would go back again in a heartbeat (though probably at a more sensible time of the year) and I would stay at the Bungalows again.

My tips: don't go during the monsoon season (June-August). And if you are driving, consider taking a larger car with high clearance to survive the awful roads in UP.

Room Tip: The rooms in Vista Villa open out on lovely views.

“Out in the Woods; Supreme”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

We visited Neemrana Ramgarh and it happened to be Holi that weekend. The location is incredible and so are the views. The restaurant is also extremely well situated and one gets an excellent view of the valley and the mountains (when visible).
