“Beauriful venue let down by poor customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights for a wedding in December. The venue was beautiful. The room was a little tired and old but it was clean.
On retruning to Melbourne, I realised I had left a phone charger in the room. After 3 telephone calls I eventually received a call-back to tell me they had found it in the room and would post back only if we agreed to pay collect charges, which would have cost more than the charger was worth.
Such a shame that after spending around $700, the hotel refused to bear a postage charge of a couple of dollars, for the sake of good customer relations.

I will certainly review our procedures relating to the postage return of lost property and items left in the rooms.

“A special "upstairs, downstairs" experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Have read previous reviews and every person's experience is influenced by their expectations. Have just returned from a four day conference based in this Hotel and can only say it was first class. This place is like an Edwardian Country House with immense character, beautiful surroundings and superb service from the staff. Yes it has areas of worn carpet and some eccentricities but that's what makes it a quality, homely experience rather than a bland, five star, minimalist place that you could find anywhere in cities. It provides for singles, families and groups and has an excellent outside pool. The restaurant is expensive and food outstanding in keeping with its rating among the best restaurants in Adelaide but you are close to other options. Highly recommended and would return.

Room Tip: Rooms vary but Room 8 Spa room, level 3 is quiet and spacious if you are not overly concerned about...

“It's all about the experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Mount Lofty House is a large rambling property constructed in stone. It's tucked away high in the Mount Lofty Range, it offers a peaceful and pleasant location for lovers of nature, or simply, lovers. The staff are extremely helpful, the restaurant is good, and the facilities such as a swimming pool, library, and generous sitting areas make up for one deficit: Out-dated bathrooms featuring a shower over the bath, wooden toilet seat, and in our room, a hairline crack in the hand-basin and a missing badge on the hot tap. My English-born wife said this was all part of the character.
Our stay was quiet, comfortable, and extremely relaxing, there is plenty to see within a short drive from the property, and the drive from Adelaide Airport takes about 35 minutes. And yes, we'd stay there again, despite the few shortcomings.
The rack-rate is expensive, but on Sunday we got a $99 deal to stay another night.
The restaurant serves a very good breakfast (price included in the rack-rate tariff), and dinner for two with wine costs about $80 or so.
This hotel is certainly not cheap, but it's a treat for romantics.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have a small balcony and a good outlook, but some have superb views over the mount...

Further to your comments relating to the bathroom we have just commenced a soft-refurbishment on our accommodation rooms which include updating our bathrooms.
I will share your comments with our team. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services.

“Needs an upgrade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This in a spectacular setting on top of the highest point (ie Mt Lofty) near Adelaide and the views are beautiful. For some time now the place has been in need of an upgrade and badly so. Carpets on stairs are threadbare in parts and bathroom in our room had what appeared to be mouldy tiles and H button missing from vanity taps. This may sound picky but they are supposed to be a prestige establishment. The place has been in this state for over a year and it's disgraceful. We had a wedding reception there recently (not my choice I might add) and I consider we were grossly overcharged for what we got. Food quite good but not worth what we paid. Overall cannot recommend this place as they need to lift their game.

Room Tip: check the size of the room as they vary

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Mount Lofty House. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies.
We have identified the need to upgrade our property and have since commenced a soft refurbishment which includes replacing all carpet (half done), a full internal paint and replacing certain room furnishings. The owners have invested greatly at the property over the last 12 months, but fortunately have included items such as electrical and water systems which aren’t noticed by guests. The intention moving forward is to complete the soft-refurbishment whilst updating the outdoor garden areas.
We service in excess of 100 weddings a year and advise guests of the prices prior to confirmation of their booking.

“Rather tragic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I stayed here on my wedding night about 6 years ago, and it was splendid - excellent room and excellent service. I stayed here again last night for someone else's wedding. The place has gone to the dogs. Hardly any staff, tragic room, leaking roof and a real rip off. The only thing really going for the place is the view and the gardens outside. Shape up.
