Located just beside the bar, what a shame, didn't really sleep until about 2am!!! and it all started again with the restaurant around 7am...Great location, just accross the sea, nice view, nice (small) bedroom, worse shower ever, really nice people. Would recommand if you intent to spend your evening out as well, otherwise, go a bit further.

A friendly motel. Well situated, even if it is a bit close to the main road, but the actual rooms are quiet and we had a good time.

We stayed there for one night on our tour round New Zealand and was glad it was only one night. The views from our window were lovely and the room was clean. The food in the restaurant was nice. However we got the worst nights sleep ever because the bar is situated so close to the rooms that when the disco started at 10.30 pm and finished at 3.30 am we heard it all. In the morning we were unable to get breakfast as we were informed that we had to book it the night before and as were weren't told this the night before we had to go hungry. The staff in the morning also looked like they had plenty to drink and were probably hung over. I wouldn't recommend staying here because of the bar location and the un-helpful staff.

We went for a night in Feb 2006 and stayed 11. What a wonderful wonderful location and although it was the other side of the world for us had we been younger Jack would have brought his sheep shears and we would have stayed for ever. Since we stayed the hotel and little chalets have been bought from Sue and Ian who now live up the road having gone back to farming but Sue is actually doing bed and breakfast we hear so when we go back....... The weather was perfect the food so tasty the people so friendly everything is on such a personal level in Opononi that one could quite easy settle here and not go home and we live in the pretty bit of North Yorkshire so that is saying a lot. We found the chalets very good value for money and as the reviews I have just read said dated 70s dont they realise this is now modern again !!! Joking apart everything worked we had good space was clean,comfortable and the ladies came in every day to clean and make the beds etc If you dont want to cook even breakfasts can be got down in the hotels dining room . It was so safe there we never locked up . The views were wonderful whether it was day break or sun set. We were so sad to leave and will be back .
