“This review concerns the hotel's restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Staying at a nearby B&B, we decided to have dinner at this restaurant, based on Lonely Planet's recommendation.
It wasn't bad. But it wasn't good either specially if you take prices into account.
Just taking a Fish 'n Chips at the café part of the same terrasse (same owner) is probably a best choice than ours.
The meat dishes were dry and overcooked.
A very common meal.
If you are looking for a good restaurant in this neighbourhood, drive 3.5 km on the SH12 towards Omapere and stop at the Copthorne Resort. The prices are in the same range as those of Opononi Hotel but the quality is two or three-fold better. It is a really refined place.
Please read my review on Copthorne for more details.

“Wonderful except for the noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Lovely staff greeted us and showed us to our small but clean and well presented room. We’d driven from Tauranga so we opted to eat there (dinner options are limited with the Copthorne being the only other true restaurant). Dinner was delicious and well priced. The challenge came the next afternoon that being New Years Eve. We knew it would be noisy but when they did the first sound check at 5pm for the night ahead we realised there was a problem. Our walls vibrated and we both looked at each other in wonder. I went out onto our balcony to check out where the sound had come from only to find it was in the room next door. The sound system for the evening had been set up in the room next door. There was to be no sleeping in the room that night. So off to reception we went. To their credit they were totally apologetic and handled the situation wonderfully. It being New Years eve we needed to find another room they did their best to find us an alternative but fortunately I had noticed a vacancy sign further back towards Omapere earlier that day and we decamped to there. We could still hear the music 1.5 kilometres away. So be warned it’s a lovely spot to stay but it can be noisy.

“Stunning location”

The hotel does not look much from outside but the room was delightful especially the bathroom. Had a very good sleep. The beach is beautitful - my husband and I enjoyed a lovely walk on it. The service was friendly. Handy having a shop next door. We ate in the bar - my pizza was nice except they smothered BBQ sauce all over it with no warning on the menu.

“FANTASTIC STAY EVER!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

What an awsome place to relax after a busy day. 4 nights and 5 days. Room was excellent, clean, beautiful views, nice deck, had Sky TV, a remote that worked and stunning decor. My favourite, the shower!!! Debbie and Debbie fantastic hosts! Nothing was too hard for the staff at this hotel to make our stay even more enjoyable. Friendly service, helpful, always smiling and the bar staff had to put up with our crowd too. The grandstand inside the pub was MEAN!!! Had clean towels evryday, the shop was right next door evrything so close, not a long trip back to the airport. Close to Tane Mahuta a definite highlight. Wot a fantastic location, fantastic hospitality and fantastic place to rest after a long day. Last but not least, fantastic localz!!! Will definately be back again!!!

“Superb situation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We only stayed one night as we wanted to do the 'Twilight Encounter' trip to the kauri forest and this hotel was one of the pick-up points. It was a good choice, and we would happily stay here again for a night or two, though we felt the rooms were too small to make it comfortable to stay for longer. The hotel itself does look a bit old and tired and could do with freshening up and modernising, but the rooms were very nice - fresh and modern and decorated in character with the harbourside location.

Our room had a small balcony with a side view of the harbour and though simply furnished, it had a flat-screen TV and a fridge as well as tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was lovely - very modern and far better than many bathrooms in much more expensive hotels - though as is often the case, the bath towels could've been bigger!

We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on dinner or breakfast.
