One word ... AWESOME! I've spent over twenty years traveling throughout Mexico and Central America. I've stayed in 5-star hotels and small, single-room pole and thatch dwellings with sascab floors, but one of the most interesting places I've stayed is the 'waterfall' tree-house at Martz Farm. Built by hand by Joe Martinez and his family, it rests in the trees over a small waterfall. There are no windows or doors, just the surrounding jungle with all of its interesting sounds (including Howler monkeys and tons of song birds). The farm is like a trip back in time and provides a glimpse of what the country may have been like many decades ago. There is no electricity, but plenty of amenities (like gravity-fed showers). Miriam makes excellent meals and often provides more traditional fare like escabeche (soup). Joe knows the jungle like the back of his hand. You can ride horses all day to waterfalls and ancient ruins, or simply explore the jungle's wildlife. You'll never see so many stars in your life.

The farm is nestled in beautiful jungle hills. Surrounded by numerous wildlife - including the comfort of howler monkeys. I've been to the farm a few times and will definitely be heading back. It is so refreshing to have no technology and no power - conversation with real people can't be overrated. Even though the sun sets early, it is easy to stay up late (9, maybe even 10 o'clock!) playing cards or reading by candle light. Miriam and Joe are amazing hosts. Miriam's cooking is incredible and no one goes hungry. Joe is extremely knowledgable about the jungle and can keep you entertained for hours with stories. Even with all of these amazing things to love about the farm, my favourite thing is how well I sleep. Without a doubt the sleep I have there is better than any where else in the world!

I have traveled all over the world and but Martz Farm is always the place I keep wanting to return to. This is the most magical place on earth, with the most beautiful scenery and the most incredible rare wild life. Joe and Miriam Martinez are extremely welcoming and accommodating to all who pass through. Miriam's cooking rocks! It is always fresh right from their garden and so delicious. Miriam never disappoints. The location of the Farm is perfect, it is far enough away from town but not too far that you cannot find it! There are always lots of activities to see and do, and Joe is the perfect guide, with a delightful sense of humour. From visiting ancient Maya archaeological sites, to going on a leisurely horse ride through the jungle, Joe can show you it all! But if you want to just relax you can just swing on a hammock and not be disappointed by the wildlife you see go by: different species of toucans, hummingbirds, and even holwer monkeys! You haven't lived until you have been to Martz Farm! Best sleeps of life!

If you are looking to truly experience Belize and its natural beauty, then Martz Farm is your destination. The farm is nestled in the jungle, surrounded by mountains and incredible wildlife. The scenery is truly breathtaking! There are a variety of accommodations available, depending on how adventurous you are feeling. My favourite is the treehouse which has its own private little waterfall. The farm is family run by Joe and Miriam Martinez, and honestly you couldn't ask for better hosts. Miriam is an amazing cook, and always goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. She even organized a trip to Guatemala to see Tikal for me. Joe is an absolute blast! I've gone on a number of adventure tours with him including horseback riding which was a completely unique way to experience the jungle. My first experience at Martz Farm was so great that I have returned number of times and have never been disappointed!
