“Would not go back in a hurry”

Disaster from start to finish. Dropped off at the bottom of a really large hill at the Old Galini Hotel on the beach had to walk up a very steep hill in extreme heat for about 10 minutes with 60kg on luggage. The hotel looks lovely on the photos, however the rooms do not live up to them. Hotel receptionists were awful, they could do with a lesson in manners, the waiting staff were very rude to majority of guests, the food repetitive and of poor quality, the restaurant was in chaos and the all inclusive bar never had any alcohol. Entertainment was poor, the pool area was unclean, the hotel manager was useless. Whenever you passed the reception area there were always people complaining about one thing or another. The air conditioning was none existent. I wouldnt recommend this hotel, we stayed for a week and ate out in the local town most days/nights. I have never complained about a hotel in all my years of travel apart from this one. They say you get what you pay for however £800 each for a week was a disgrace.

We stayed in this hotel last August, it was without doubt the worst holiday we have ever had. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Accomodation poor, food awful, service crap.

Room Tip: Do not book this hotel

“Value for money, but not 5 star.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Having expected 5 star accommodation we were dissapointed with our room, (cramped & only a side seaview over masssive rooftops).
Shower cabinet was really old & grotty looking. Upon asking for an upgrade we were given an end suite for only €10 extra per day.
We went all inclusive, but the drinks were very poor quality; soft drinks / fruit juices were full of sugar. Buffet meals were good & varied, & we juiced fresh oranges for breakfast - delicious. Coffee was awful, but you could make your own Greek coffee.
The hotel was very clean, but with no heating available in the evenings, so we were cold.
Finding the hotel was difficult, we had to stop 3 times to ask where it was.
Personell were very friendly & helpful, but waitresses/bar tenders seemed rather amateur. As it was end of season there was no entertainment & no special a la carte restaurant meals being served. The Spa department seemed non-existant, but upon asking for a massage an extremly good therapist came to the hotel privately. The whole situationen gave the impression of a "wind-down" to closure for the season.
On the whole a relaxing week & value for money, but a week was long enough!

Room Tip: Top floor, south side, end suite are great with a long sunny balcony.

“Friendly Service but not a 5 stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

It was a bit difficult to identify were the hotel was as it is up the hill and we did not see any signs on the road indicating the location of the hotel (maybe we did not see it). They have large rooms and large bathrooms (in none of our rooms, the hydromassage showers worked though). Breakfast is excellent and the staff was very friendly but a bit unexperienced (seemed like they were in practice period), but I repeatm very friendly. Hotel is not a real 5 stars but on the other hand, their rates were not rated 5 stars either. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask to be accomodated in a room not overlooking the pool as it is a noisy area (kids playing)

“worse food ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

The hotel is up on a hill. You must take a mini bus to visit the sea which does not represent Crete's beautifull seas. Rooms are ok. It was the first 5* hotel I visited with no airconditioning in reception area and restaurants. It had too many stairs. No good for families with small kids. The playground is difficult to be found...in this cement hotel. The food was poor in quality and taste. I managed to stay for 2 nights and then went to another hotel.
