“very warm welcome, nice food, beautiful surroundings”

We have just spent the weekend at this hotel near Rochefort and were impressed with the warm welcome, the good food . In the evening, we had so much fun with the karaoke ; the owners have really done their utmost best to please us.The rooms may need to be updated, but the warm welcome, great food, make up for this little drawback.

“super”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We came to this place with a group of 11 friends and stayed one night.
The reception was absolutely stylish and spotless. On our arrival a waiter in full dress served us a welcome drink and the manager came to us to explain us which walk we could do - because that's what why we came here for- and gave us a brochure. The manager and his wife are bilingual French / Dutch .(We haven't tried other languages ). We were sitting in a warm and cosy lounge , full of old furniture and decorations We discussed about the food and booked a three-course dinner before we went walking.
The dinner in the evening was top class :very tasty food , served elegantly . We also liked the wine of the house .
It was Saturday and to our surprise this is their karaoke evening. We weren't prepared for this , but we really had wonderful time , listening to the manager and his wife - who sings very well,- and singing karaoke ourselves. It was absolutely unexpected , but great fun ! They are two very kind and warm hearted people who apparently find pleasure in their work.
The rooms are simple but comfortable , some with a bath, some with a shower.
In the morning we were invited to the breakfast buffet. It was not only the food that caught our eye: the collection of old fashioned sewing machines , coffee grinders etc , was fun to look at. On the buffet there were eggs and bacon , different sorts of bread , pastry , yoghurt etc .There was plenty of everything.
In short , we had a super weekend , but then , we must admit , we are a super group too :-)

Room Tip: some rooms have a bath, others a shower. Some have balcony, other's don't. There are three...

“Horrid Rooms great Food (eat but don´t stay!)”

We booked this having received a ´bongo box´ (my husband is Belgian) as a gift from his brother. Here are some bullet points as to why you would not want to stay here (unless you like the following) -

- Hotel is a junk shop (owner apparently likes to collect antiques - couldn´t actually see any antiques, just crap everywhere).

- Room was old - this is an 18 century building, don´t think it had been painted since new, wallpaper coming off the walls, carpet stained, hairdryer broken, dirty old tissue in the bed and the dust, my goodness I think this had been collecting since the 18th century too. The bathroom was just as revolting as the room. We came away wanting to wash everything including ourselves. We didn´t dare put anything in the cupboards, we kept it in the suitcases.

- When booking we were told if we take breakfast you can have an additional night for only 15 euros, however after arrival they told us that we had to have dinner both nights to get that deal. So be careful what you agree!

- At breakfast on the 2nd morning there was a cat wondering around (called Leo) in the breakfast area, buffet area, kitchen etc... Judging by the rooms I wondered about the hygene in the kitchen if they allow a cat to wonder around like that.

- Having said that, the only saving grace of this hotel is its food. We did have two lovely dinners there, even if the portions were a little small for the price. The exceptions being; The dame blanch had blocks of ice in it (Ice cream defrosted and frozen again) and crepe flambe was not falmbe just a rich sugary orange sauce. Also we ordered a bottle of wine, which we were told had been sold out, but they had the 2007 one. The bottle arrived, we didn´t look too carefully as we were busy chatting, only to realise they actually brought out something totally different out for 20 euros more!

So overal I would say avoid this place, there are better places in the area to enjoy your stay, unless you like dusty 18 century dodgy hotels that look like junk shops (Alex Polizzi you would have a field day here!)

“Great place to stay for a weekend Ardennen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

My girlfriend, our dog and I stayed in the hotel for a long weekend.
It was great, the Staff is very friendly and helpful, the room was good, bathroom even had a double sink.
The food in the hotel is the best, from a simple cheese croquette to a very luxery dinner.
Situated in a part of the ardenne where there is a lot of things to do from nature to culture.
Nothing to complain, a very nice place to stay..
