We went on this holiday through the Sun with my daughter and son-in-law as a mid-week break in October 2011.
We asked for somewhere with disability access and somewhere on the flat as my daughter has Lupus and has to use crutches. We also asked for an upgrade to make sure she had a really nice comfortable holiday, but we were told by a very abrupt rep that we wee not allowed to do the upgrade until 10 days before the holiday, just in case a full paying customer wanted to book it first.......hmph!
We were lucky enough to be able to get the upgrade and paid an additional £70 and it was worth every penny as we had a beautiful caravan, with all the mod cons. The only downsides were the toilet which was so tiny you had to reverse into it and barely could move your arms to attend to yourself......the shower cubicle which was very claustrophobic due to the doors opening inwards, (once you shut the doors you were trapped and you couldn't let the steam out without folding the doors all the way back and flooding the floor) and the single beds which were extremely narrow and couldn't be pushed together for me and my hubby.
The caravan location and parking were ok, but due to the layout we couldn't park in front of our caravan as it would have meant blocking someone else in, but the car park (loose dirt+stone) was nearby up a slight incline.
The clubhouse and shop were within manageable distance for my daughter, but not the pool which was at the other end of the site and up a very steep hill, so we drove up there.
The facilities are in need of serious modernization, as the pool house is very dated and the changing area is not very user friendly at all - I saw many stressed out parents struggling with children, as there are no cubicles, chairs, or changing units and you could put nothing on the floor as it was soaking. A lot of people were changing in the toilets for privacy and to use the hook on the back of the door to keep their stuff dry off the floor.
We couldn't access the outdoor pools due to the time of year we went, but the indoor pool seemed very cramped with two pools, a flume and a jacuzzi packed into a very small space. The sides of the pool were also quite raised making it difficult to get in and out.
We only went to the clubhouse once and it was very tatty and the entertainment was painful and there was no curfew on the loud music and it went on till the early hours.
The site itself is in a fantastic location with a walkway to a nice (but not the most accessible) beach.
The owners seem to be focusing on sales of 'on-site' caravans/mobile homes (as there is a smart office and a whole line-up of beautiful show caravan/mobile homes as soon as you drive in the entrance), but they are not focusing on their holiday rental market.
The other chalets and non-residential homes looked really weathered and tatty, with rotted woodwork/frames and peeling paintwork and I felt sorry for the people who paid out good money to stay in them.
I think the owners are slowly improving the place, but it must have been neglected along time to get to this state. More major improvements need to be undertaken in the winter/out-of-season months and older properties have to be fully vetted and taken off the list if they are known to be uninhabitable, to allocate these places to paying customers is ripping them off and spoiling their holiday!!!
Room Tip: Location and beach are lovely and your accommodation will be as good as your prepared to upgrade it...
