We booked a sea view room here & we were initially given a garden view. After querying our room & despite the hotel being very busy the desk staff managed to put us in a sea view room - we were impressed with their efforts. A good quality hotel – well thought out rooms & with excellent secure parking, a great pool and lovely "sea-side" situation. There are great sea views from both the pool snack area & bar and also from the main restaurant terrace. There is no "beach" as such as much of the area has only lava rock disappearing into the sea yet the hotel has managed a couple of areas next to the sea with ladders from the lava rock down into the sea with loungers adjacent. We only used the pool which was large, clean & with plenty of sun beds & free towels. Like most 4*+ hotels bar prices & poolside food are on the high side. We didn't eat at the hotel choosing instead to eat in less touristy therefore less costly local eateries. We stayed in mid-August & the majority of visitors appeared to be Italians on holiday.
Our room was close to the pool bar area – if you are “early to bed” people it would be worth asking for a room away from here as, certainly in August, from 2030-0030 there is a live duo playing outside – for some this could be annoying!
We had a late flight on departure day & asked if we could hire our/a room until we left - again the hotel staff were very efficient finding us a small room (obviously at extra cost) that we could use for the afternoon & evening which also gave us access to the pool.
The hotel is close to Catania centre and only 15/20 mins drive to the airport. The immediate surroundings are like much of Sicily - quite littered & fairly basic with high volumes of fast moving poorly driven traffic!
Our only "niggle" with this particular hotel would be breakfast - more to the point the room & the management of the meal. The choices & quality of food were fine but the area used was full to overflowing - staff were seemingly overwhelmed never seeming sure whether to replenish food or plates & cutlery which had run out or to clear a table for the people queuing up (maybe a lack of staff was why?). The room used was, to say the least, over hot - there was no proper air conditioning just a mobile unit by the door suitable for a small room was switched on but doing next to nothing, we just had open windows & with temperatures approaching 30C at 9.30am with little or no breeze it really wasn’t a particularly pleasant experience. Many people were visibly uncomfortable as it was & cannot be described as anything other than “a very sweaty experience”! Shame really as we felt it rather spoiled rather than enhanced the start to our day!
Room Tip: Sea view room a must - avoid pool bar area if you dont like late live music outside your window!
