“Its the sort of place people reserve sun loungers at 6am and they come down at 2pm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We ended up here as our reserved apartments (Las Velas) were double booked. I would never book anything with the Cabot Hotels group as their customer service is very poor. We had paid for a 2 bed and were given a 1 bed. It happened to another family too. We had booked through Asda and they booked through Travel Republic. Am in the proces of getting a refund but have not been offered near the difference yet!

The apartments were clean and some had a sea view. They were on the sea front which was great for the beach. But there was no locked gate so it meant that there were often non-residents using the pool and once late at night a group of teenagers were chased out by the manager.

There were a lot of apartments for one pool so it was very crowded. We saw towels on loungers at 6am (we have young kids so up early). We went down at 9am one day and some loungers had towels on and the people had still not appeared at 2pm when we left. Several families went for the beach for hours and still reserved the loungers by the pool.

We had a 12 hour power cut in our block and had to put all our food in the bar fridge and had no ac overnight and no breakfast either. They werent very helpful or apologetic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea, not just a view The rear block had very noisy overnight lorries

“Not bad, but probably wouldnt go back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

Not bad, but probably wouldnt go back pretty much somes it up - it wasnt terrible but we'd try somewhere else instead.

Pros -

Clean
Very near the beach(visible from most rooms)
Generally quiet
Good pool area with plenty of sun beds
TV with quite a few UK stations if you need your fix ! But no Eurosport so I couldnt watch the Tour de France. Quite a lot of cyclists in this area so this isnt such a daft mention!

Cons -

20 mins walk from the main restaurant area - though there is a bus for about a euro but you need to check the times as they arent super frequent
Our room (althought this may have been just our room) was a bit noisy. Bins emptied early in the morning by a bin lorry every day, the bar was right below us so people using that or making noise by the pool table till at least midnight. Our fridge was obviously on its last legs and let out a noise like a door being slammed every hour or so which woke us up so many times Ive lost count!
Local supermarket expensive(so walk down the road a bit)
Beach expensive - 11 Euros for 2 loungers and a brolly, what a rip off! Ok this isnt the hotels fault.
Shower a bit weak.

Overall -

So generally it did the job, the beds were singles - we asked for a double. There was a good kitchen area if you wanted to properly self cater. The aircon worked pretty well although didnt really work in the bedroom due to it being a seperate room. The location was quieter but further away - this may be ideal for you - I can see that maybe some of the other hotels could be much noiser although this is not a disco lager lager resort. The decor felt like it was pretty original ie 20 years old or so - not a disaster but not fantastic.

Hope this helps someone anyway - you wont go wrong going here, but consider what else is out there even if maybe its a few quid extra?

“Beautiful place clean and Tidy”

Just had the most amazing break! Puerto Pollensa is a beautiful place! Beaches and peace!
Hobby Club Apartments are small and very clean - we stayed with our two children aged 16 and 13 it was a little cramped but was a good base! The apartments have a small bar and you can buy snacks which are good value

The pool is quiet and safe! along with sunbeds for all!

We will be returning next year to Puerto Pollensa and definately will book the Aparments Hobby Club for there location and cleaniness

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

I agree with most of the reviews on here about Hobby Club. Clean, good value, good location etc.
I would just add that we were disappointed with the level of service at reception. There were 3 different receptionists and the one who checked us in was friendly and helpful. However, when we needed help the other 2 were not helpful. First, we had only about 5 hangers for 3 of us and as there were about 8 spare rings on the rail I asked at reception for some more. This was written in a little book but the extra hangers never materialised. Second, halfway through the week we wanted to change our towels so left them in the bath as requested. We we came back at 5.00pm that day and found we had only been given towels for 2 people. I asked for another at Reception but the receptionist could only respond "I don't know". We left it til the morning (my daughter making do with a hand towel) and told the same receptionist who we had spoken to about the hangers. Again our request was written in "the book" and we went and sat by the pool (so I could check when the maids had been into our room). I saw the receptionist talking to the maids later and assumed our request had been passed on. I went back to the room at lunchtime after the maids had been and no extra towel had been left so I had to find them futher down the floor and get one myself.
These were annoyances but odviously didn't spoil the holiday. The weather nearly did, but a couple of good days at the end of the week made things better. I note it's 90f now (one week later!)

“Good value in lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Arrived late afternoon after collecting hire car from the airport. This was not much more expensive than paying for transfers for the 4 of us and turned out to be a good decision. We had asked for a top floor room, overlooking the pool with sea views and this is exactly what we were allocated. Room 313 in the central block. Everything was clean, furnishings a little worn but no complaints. The kitchen was adequately equipped with hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and all esssential kitchen tools . The only bad thing about the apartment was sitting on the uncomfortable sofa which doubled as 2 single beds. The pool was clean, plenty osf sunbeds and umberellas, the beach across the road was beautiful.
Unfortunalely we chose a week when the weather was bad so overall our holiday was disappointing. Luckily we had the car so were able to go off exploring in the rain instead of spending the days on the beach as planned!
With 2 teenage boys it would have been good to have free wif at Hobby Club. It cost us quite a lot in drinks and snacks for them to sit in a nearby cafe with free wifi.
We ate out every night, 6 out of 7 meals were good the only disappointment was our last night when we thought we had chosen well - a bbq restaurant in the square, very busy but food and service very poor. Favorite places - Lemon Lounge just before Pine Walk for pre dinner drinks, and IL Angelo small italian restaurant on side street near the square. Overall a good base for a holiday, would def go back but would like a guarantee on the weather!
