We stayed at the Hotel Romantic from 11th October until the 18th October. We booked this holiday as a reasonably priced late deal, 4 weeks before traveling. It seemed that, from the day we booked this break, the Trip advisor reviews took a nosedive and by the time we departed we were expecting the worse, but, were keeping an open mind.
On arrival at Palma airport, there was some confusion with the minibus driver as to which hotels he was dropping people at (Thomson) but we, along with another couple, were deposited at the Hotel Romantic at approx 11.00 am only to be told that our rooms were not ready! At approx 11.45am we were allocated our rooms. The room we were allocated overlooked the back of the bar next door, which wasn't a pretty sight. It mainly contained a big pile of empty bottle crates (photo attached) and just piles of palettes and general mess, a large family of feral cats and one (that we observed) very brave rat! The room also had a really strong smell that we couldn't identify along with a cracked handbasin and mould growing around the half sized bath. Later in the week we narrowed the smell down to mould growing on the back of the room desk/dressing table but were never 100% sure. It helped to leave the balcony door open, but, every evening we were treating to the owner of the bar burning empty cardboard boxes under the balcony! didn't help.
However, this was our first visit to Majorca for almost 25 years, we ignored all negatives and left the hotel to, first arrange a hire car for the week, and second to explore Puerto Pollensa & Majorca
The hotel breakfast, if you liked a cooked breakfast, was OK! The evening meal was, sometimes passable, and, sometimes awful. There was always a decent salad bar and soup. I am not sure what sort of 'Chef' thinks that Spaghetti of any sort will 'keep' well on a hot tray???? Never gonna work!
On the positive side, all the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a fantastic position across the road from the beach.
Honestly, we thought that the Hotels main negative was its small legion of regulars!
People that, for what ever reason, visited year after year and seemed oblivious to its shortcomings and expected 'newcomers' to be also. One evening, the Chef was congratulated with a theatrical pat on the back and a loud 'marvelous job as usual' from one 'regular' lady visitor????
Would we stay at this hotel again? No. Nor would we recommend anyone else to.
Room Tip: The rooms on the front are supposedly the best.
