“A touch of luxury in the middle of nowhere”

Heard about Paradors and thought we would treat ourselves to an overnight stop in one. What a place to find - eventually. Large car-park but obviously a popular place as spaces were full but we managed to squeeze our scooter in a gap next to a maserati. Fabulous room - almost a suite - with separate area in hallway for outdoor clothes which was great as we had a load of sweaty riding gear and bags were covered in road muck. HUGE bathroom, with every type of toiletry imaginable. Nice quality too. Extremely clean. Went down into the bar after we'd freshened up. Was late afternoon and although there was a barman in attendance he seemed hellbent on clearing the tables rather than serving us. Had dinner in the restaurant - I think I made the wrong choice as other meals that were coming out from the kitchen looked far more appetising than my pasta dish. Parador was a bit remote - too far to walk back into the town and the grounds not quite big enough to be able to stretch your legs after a long journey. Having said that, we will go back - perhaps a tour of Paradors in this area?

“UNREMARKABLE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

The Parador is located too far from the city to be able to walk into town, and in any case the route is along a busy main road. The location, on this road and next to an industrial estate is unremarkable. The Parador has fairly large grounds but it would be an exaggeration to describe them as "gardens. The building is one of the not very attractive modern Paradores. Reception was friendly but the two elderly gentlemen were hardly computer-competent and took five minutes to find our booking. The interior is starting to need refurbishment - for example, the stair carpets are badly worn on the edges as they have not been moved to equalise wear. On the positive side are the ample parking, double- doored bedrooms which cuts out noise, the large and comfortable dining room, with good food served by friendly staff and the good choice at breakfast. Our room looked onto a large grassy inner courtyard which wasn't noisy but, as another contributor mentions, tended to make the rooms dark. The outdoor pool was not in use, the indoor one was cold, and the jaccuzi was just warm. As mentioned below, the fitness room needs maintenance. But all in all an acceptable overnight stop but not a Parador for those seking a historic building nor an impressive location.

“Great stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

We stayed at Parador Tordesillias for 2 nights as a stopover on the way from Portugal to Santander. The Parador is, as stated, quite 'modern' for a Parador. The public rooms are lovely and bright but the bedrooms are really quite dark and one needed to have electric lights on at all times.
The rooms are lovely and clean though and bed comfort was good. Bathrooms light and airy with good facilities.
One reason we chose this Parador was the gym - we had eaten far too much on holiday and needed to just get some exercise.....however....what a shame. The gym is more a graveyard for dead equipment. There is a rowing machine with no foot-straps so cannot be used efficiently. 2 exercise bikes - again, no foot straps and electrical panels not working, then a cross-trainer where the electric panel not working....no doubt as there were no cables attached to plug in, and the handles were bare metal, stripped of all padding and had sharp metal edges. It would have been better for the equipment to be removed and just have one functioning running machine and some free weights maybe.
The indoor pool was good, though the steam room and saund not functioning.
In the end we just put on trainers and went out for runs along the busy road and around the nearby town.
Restaurant in the hotel was good, with a great taster menu serving local cuisine, well worth spending time over. Breakfasts were good and comprehensive. Bar staff lovely and friendly and were real stars.
I would only recommend this Parador as a one night stop-gap en transit.

“What a wasted opportunity and what a disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

This was something we'd looked forward to. The first night in Spain at the beginning of a 3 week tour. First impressions were good - reasonable car park, efficient check in and a realy nice room - lots of space, clean and tastefully decorated. We went down to dinner in good spirits, entered a lovely room - and everything went down hill rapidly. We had booked, but that didn't seem to count and we were left to choose a table, which we did then we waited and waited and waited and 25 minutes later after waving, someone deigned to give us a menu - after 45 minutes finally a glass of wine and some water arrived - a starter of grilled vegetables was eventually provided - and was very good - tasty, and nicely done. Then the main courses came - the regional chicken stew and some pressed lamb - neither had any great taste, both felt they had simply been reheated, with no care or attention to detail - throughout the meal we felt unwelcome and completely ignored. I don't think it was just us - looking around the room, nobody looked to be having a good time and there was a generally subdued air about the place,

We declined dessert and went to the hotel bar where a charming lady served us an excellent brandy and some ice cream

We left the next day with a degree of sadness - we travel a lot and I've stayed in lots of hotels including a number of paradores, and we had really looked forward to this and there were a number of positives about the place but I've never felt so unwelcome as I did in that restaurant and it felt such a shame that all the initial goodwill we had towards the place was squandered by staff that just didn't seem to care

“average hotel with below average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2009

The parador was large with many rooms. I wonder how much original characteristics of the building have been maintained as it looked just like a hotel constructed in the 70s.

The town itself is intersting, and I'd recommend having meals in the town, and not the parador. Our dinner in the parador was rather disappointing. The dishes tasted reheated. (We had two dinners in the Lerma parador, everything tasted fresh).
