There is very little to visit in Tordesillas but it is a nice place to stay between 2 visits to Salamanca, Burgos Avila or Leon.. And the Parador is definitely the best in town !

The Parador is a little outside the town and the road does not have a footpath which makes walking into the town tricky. We had stayed in four Paradors on this trip before this one and several on other holidays and did not feel this matched the standards we've come to expect. The staff did not make us feel particularly welcome and the decor was tired. The beds were very uncomfortable and the breakfast not particularly good. Even simple things like making sure there were spoons as well as bowls available for cereal weren't done. There was not a computer available to guests and the internet was only available via a modem cable which many devices don't accommodate these days.

Take note, although this parador has a fabulous pool, it does not open until the middle of June. This may surprise travellers from Northern Europe as in early June the temperature can get into high twenties (centigrade) and the failure to open the pool was a sad disappointment to my party of four. Discussing this in the bar, it appears that others were similarly frustrated but were told "its policy". Maybe so, but its bad customer service. True we were told it was seasonal-but nobody thought this meant as late as June 11.

Our two day stay at Tordesillas was wonderful. It allowed us to visit Valladolid and Tordesillas without having to drive very much. The room was very clean; it had a nice window that opened up to a small pine forest. Lots of free parking. The food was exquisite; we had many well prepared foods, including "lechoncito," sausages and white beans, white asparagus, etc. The only drawback was that they do not turn on the air conditioned until the 1st of June and it was warm. Thank goodness we were on the 2nd floor and were able to sleep with the window open.
