“A lovely guest house for a romantic break in the Hunter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

We stayed at Wilderness Grove for 2 nights in the Manzanillo suite. The room was lovely, it was very simpley done but very tasteful too and had a great balcony with beautiful views overlooking the olive groves. The bathroom had a big double jacuzzi bath but the jacuzzi function didn't work, there was a great walk in shower too and some nice toiletries - although there wasn't enough of them as they were only small bottles! The owner gave us more when we asked for them though.
The service was great with a lovely continental buffet breakfast provided in the morning with pretty much everything you could ask for, toast, cereals, yoghurts, muffins, fruit, juice, etc and the owner came into breakfast to greet us and was very warm and welcoming.
The location was great, a very handy spot to reach all the wineries. My only negative comment would be that I thought it was slightly overpriced for what you got, there were certain extra's you'd expect for $235 per night, for example some ipod speakers and TV and I would have liked curtains on the four poster bed!

“Wilderness Grove ROCKS!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

We staye at Wilderness Grove after finding it on the internet. It is a beautiful property and the owners are super nice. They don't actually live in the guest house but about 400m away on the property, so you're definitely not staying in someone's "house" as it were.

The rooms were beautiful but it was 42 degrees when we arrived! Outrageousy hot! And our air conditioner happened to be broken. Well not broken but the remote didn't work so it was on an auto setting which was rumoured to be about 21 degrees, but felt more like maybe 23 or 24. After about 30 minutes though we felt hot again and asked if anything could be done. Apparently nothing could.

So we went off to our concert and when we got back the air conditioner now didn't feel like even being on the auto setting, but only on a test setting which lasted for 30 minutes. At this stage it was 10pm at night and obviously nothing could be done. My husband got up 15 times in the night to turn it back on. It was very annoying.

Having said that, the next morning, the other guests checked out and we were moved into a different suite where the air conditioner did work. This was all done very quickly and with litle fuss. We thought the owner was a top bloke, and really enjoyed chatting to him and playing with the three doggies that lived on the property.

Breakfasts were also yummy and generally we had an excellent time except for the air conditioner debacle. I guess I wish they could have TRIED something to help us on the saturday afternoon. It was the hottest day in history, and may have been a good time to call an emergency repair person OR to at least try and change the batteries in the remote.

All that aside, I think these were VERY rare circumstances that I don't expect anyone else to come into contact with since it was basically the hottest day in 56 years. We still had a lovely stay and will DEFINITELy stay there again if we go to the Hunter.

“It was great!”

It was a great experience, the cottage was clean and the atmosphere very enjoyable, the only back turn is that they don't provide you with room service, so you will have to make your own bed...

“Home away from Home- a blissful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I love these place, it s clean, decor is so italian country style and the view is to die for (not to mention the big brekkie) it s close to everything.

We stayed at Wilderness Grove for 2 nights it is an absolute bliss. Before the trip we recieved an email with all the information, activities suggestion etc via email and clearly explain how to get there so we get a fair idea what we are into.

The day we took off, Management sent through a text message explaining check in and contact number in case we have trouble finding them. We arrived at around 4pm on the day, went to our room and there is a bottle of complimentry wine and a tasting basket waiting for us on the little coffee table. (yum!) Room is absolutely lovely decorated, spotless and toilet is sparkly clean. Owner pleasantly dropped by to greet us and make sure we got everything we need and are comfortable. (Very attentive!) Went to Majors Lane for Dinner, good food, wonderful services and quiet large serving too.

Day two we had breakfast at the common area which was a feast, toast, yoghurt, croissants, mini muffins, oats, cereals, fruits, musseli....you name it. We joined the Gone Walkabout wine tour which Alan our driver and tour guide is very friendly and we had a fantastic time. Dropped off back at our accomodation at 4.30 pm so booked dinner at Mojo's ( 3 minutes walk, literally across the road). Really, It is a wonderfully restaurant, wished they update their website since it really didnt justify the food and ambience there. Love they food!!!! One big plus to Wilderness Grove, they are smart enough to provide a torch in the bedside drawer, good to bring it if you are walking to Mojo's.

Day 3, check out after brekkie. Again Owner came and say goodbye. He gave us some advises on wineries to go to. The whole stay is so clam and tranquil which is exactly what we need. Bring a book and soak up the view, feel refreshed after the trip and a big thank you for staff at wilderness grove. We will be back :)

P.S The puppies of the owner sometimes dropped by and they are absolutely adorable.
