“Very good cost-value; good meals included; centric; I'll return”

For MX$600 (april 2009), you get a good place to stay, good breakfast and dinner (we went to a couple of restaurant, and I prefered the hotel taste, actually doubled my dish), and in the downtown.

Due to restoration, there were some noise in the morning and noon (like 10AM and 4PM), but I mean, they're improving, next time It will be better. The parking is a small block from the hotel (no problema, your in downtown, and actually, I just used it when we arrive, and when we left).

For those with claustrophobia, ceiling is not high. Even I liked the bathroom (it is hand painted), the bath tube is not well suited for stand shower.

If you like treat with normal real local people, go there (personally, I dislike fake well trained repetitive behavior). If you are going to be most of your time outside, why paid double or triple? With that money I choose to rent 2 bikes and buy 2 menonitas pizzas at Cuauhtémoc (also a hot-dog called "Dogo Humanoide" :-) due to a recent legend in the Sierra). Sit and feel, what you really want and decide. I really recommend this hotel, I'll return. ¡Viva Mexico!

“great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights while in Creel. It was great--clean, comfortable, and quiet. Also very safe. This is not a typical
Mexican hotel (and I do not mean that in a negative way as we have been all over Mexico and stayed in many types of hotels--most of which were great)--but rather like an upscale U.S.
motel 6 or Day's Inn. Everything was as advertised and the meals were all quite good. The location was also excellent.
As I said--great value--we would stay again. Note--they were also great at helping us arrange trips and organize a group to go dopwn into the canyon.

“Great Base Camp with Meals Included!”

While visiting friends in nearby Cuauhtémoc, this hotel was highly recommended for our trip to explore the Copper Canyon. After a beautiful two hour drive, we arrived to the quaint town of Creel where we immediately spotted the hotel upon arriving to the Centro. Before booking our room, we made an inspection for ourselves and found the rooms to be spotless and well maintained. Each room is nicely decorated with two comfortable double beds; night table with reading light; wardrobe; color television with remote; wall heater; vanity; and full size sectional bathroom with very hot water. Along with all the necessary bathroom amenities and full size bath towels, the hardwood ceiling and well decorated windows made for a very comfortable and relaxing experience. Also included in the price of the room ($45 US) is both a full breakfast and full dinner in the nicely decorated and clean dining area. Breakfast (7:30am - 9am) consisted of fresh toasted bread; coffee; tea; oatmeal; scrambled eggs with ham and refried beans. Dinner (6:30pm - 8pm) included fresh bread; coffee; tea; soup; spaghetti with meat sauce; guacamole with chips; and dessert. Both meals were very well presented and tasted good even for North American standards. There was also a good selection of soft drinks, beer, and wine for a nominal charge. Even though check-in and check-out was very easy, the only reason for not giving the hotel a higher rating was because the hotel receptionist is not the most outgoing or friendly. Instead of being welcomed as a guest, you pretty much have to take the initiative and share a smile or give a greeting but with all these amenities along with Creel's close proximity to the different canyons, lakes, springs, waterfalls, etc. staying at the Margarita's Plaza Mexicana hotel made for a wonderful experience!

“Margaritas--nice enough property but about hospitality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2008

We were not able to book this property until we arrived in Creel. Many of the properties in Creel are very worn or are generic motel style. Margaritas has some charm in comparison. It has a nice lobby, dining room with mural and pleasant courtyard. The rooms are a little tight with low ceilings but are fine. They offer heat and some nice visual touches like colorful tile and woodwork. Unfortunately the bathroom door would not close--not nice in close quarters. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price however the food varies greatly. One night we had a nice dinner and the next we were given mac-n-cheese and a thin piece of ham. In general the breakfasts were fine. Other guests were able to negotiate a better price without meals but we were turned down when we asked for the same option.
Which brings me to my complaint... the woman working the front desk is an absolute pill. She seemed incapable of smiling but then you'd catch her laughing with her friends. Most of her time was spent staring at herself in her compact mirror or at telenovelas on tv. She feigned no English (none of the staff spoke English) and listened to us struggle to communicate in Spanish until the last day when she wanted to make sure we were not trying to leave our bags in the room after check-out. Suddenly she could speak English! We had enough of her after 3 nights and left for another hotel. The owners need to give her a crash course in hospitality or have her work in an area where she does not interact with clients.
Finally, the owners son was supposed to take us to the hot springs (on a paid tour). He arrived 40 minutes late and then jacked the price up (others had cancelled). We negotiated a new price. He drove us and was pleasant, well-spoken and informative. Its a long hike down and back up so the driver just drop you off. We agreed on a pick-up time. He arrived over 30 minutes late and then didn't even drive down to get us. He yelled for us because he did not want to drive his truck down the rough road. Needless to say his mention of tipping was ignored.
Maybe it was off-season laziness but they really need to polish up their act.

“You get what you pay for...”

We stayed one night at Margarita's Plaza Motel in December 07. We were attracted by the lovely interior courtyard, the pretty rooms, and the much lower room rate compared to other nearby motels. We paid $55 for two people which included dinner and breakfast.

We are savvy travelers and asked all the usual questions before paying for the room -- about hot water, heat, etc. Unfortunately, the answers provided did not match up to the reality. There is heat and hot water but it is rationed by the management - they turn it on for a limited time at night. The heat never came on in our room which forced us to go to bed at 7pm to keep warm, however at about 2am it turned our room into a furnance, but the room was cold again by the time we awoke. The hot water never heated up enough to take a shower. While there are TVs in the rooms, there is no TV reception.

The food served in the dining room was OK, however service was really slow at breakfast.

This place would be better in the spring or fall when heat would not be as much of an issue. In winter, look elsewhere.
