“Very Nice Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Hotel was clean and comfortable.
Meals were very good. The staff did an excellent job of accommodating our vegan diet.
Isabel at the front desk was very courteous and helpful.

CRT TV's have an outstanding selection of channels.

The only minor downside was the low doorway clearance to the bathroom.
Be sure to duck if you are 6' tall or taller.

Tours are reasonably priced, with different destinations each day.

“Good place to stay, but beware of the Rodrigo and Luis brothers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2011

The hotel offers a good value for your money: decent rooms, cable TV, breakfast and dinner included, etc. Our experience there would have been a great one if it had not been for the frontdesk clerk Rodrigo who organized a tour for us with his brother Luis. Rodrigo lied to us about the price and what to expect from the tour. Luis cheated us by colluding with a corrupt employee of the national park (Alfredo Manjarrez) to keep the entrance fees to themselves.

“Great Place to Stay at a Good Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

Everyone we know stayed here, and we liked it. Some reviews wrote about poor food. C'mon, people, it's 2 multi-course meals at a low room price, with organized tours if you want them. You want fine dining, stay at the Best Western and pay a lot more. The staff was nice, room was roomy and clean. Even had wireless internet. During the busy weekend, the food was watered down and just basically something hot. During the week when it was very low occupancy, food was much better. It's difficult to make reservations directly, we speak spanish and still had to have a mexican friend make them for us. They're very popular and don't worry about getting customers. To secure our reservation, we made a deposit to their mx bank acct (very common here in mx). Make sure which you're reserving, the hotel or the hostel (we chose the hotel). We didn't use their tours, we did our own through 3 Amigos and Eco Paseos horseback ride. Both were outstanding, highly recommended, especially 3 Amigos. If you compare Margarita's tour prices, to see what we saw w/ 3 Amigos you'd have to take multiple Margarita's tours and be on a full mini-bus. Creel is a dumpy town, but a great place to stay as a launchpad for sightseeing. We stayed 4 nights and really SAW the many canyons within the Copper Canyon series of canyons.

“Charming hotel with a questionable staff member”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2010

Our expreience started out good. We were picked up at the train station and driven the few blocks to the hotel. Rodrigo who picked us up was eager to offer some tours. For the first day we rented some mountain bikes and they came about an hour after booking these. The bikes were ok, but one of them kept jumping from gear to gear. At the same time while we booked the bikes, we also booked a tour for the next day to the big waterfall (Basasachi). Rodrigo told us that it would be 500 pesos and less if he could find more people. He said that he would meet us at dinnertime to talk about the details. At 8 p.m. Rodrigo still hadn't shown up, so after waiting for a while we tried looking for him at the hostel Casa Margarita. We didn't find him and instead tried the next morning, where he then told us that he had been busy last night, and unfortunately the tour was cancelled. He didn't even appologise, even though it looked like we were gonna stay in Creel for the day (since most big tours are arranged the day before and leaves early in the morning). We were lucky to find a tour at Tarahumara, where we saw the hot springs - had we arrived there 10 minutes later, it would have been too late. A good advice is to have the tours planned in advance and at least the day before.

And now for the actual hotel review.
We stayed in room #200 for two days. The room is spacious and clean, but we have some comments:
- The door to the bathroom can't fully close without waking up the neighbourhood (it squeaks and you have to pull it hard to close it).
- The tap is dripping and to get rid of the noice you have to close the door (see above ;) )
- There is no hot water which makes the shower a quick one.
- The light at the bathroom stopped working and wasn't fixed by the cleaning staff.
- The bedroom has a lamp issue. The switch has a loose connection which make the bedroom looks like a disco in the evening.
- The room is not well isolated which makes it a little cold and very sound.

As mentioned in the other reviews both breakfast and dinner is included. The dinner was ok, but the breakfast was below average, and you have to expect spending 45 minutes to eat a full breakfast.

It may sound that we're complaining about eveything, but we didn't expect anything else and we just want to give you the full pictue of the place. We don't know if you can find a more cosy and chaming hotel in the town, than this one.

Other people have mentioned the price and it seems that it's negotiable. We reserved our room by e-mail and here Rodrigo quoted a 700 pesos price. When we arrived he asked us if we got the 600 pesos price, which we of course said yes to (saved us 100 pesos per night). Maybe we could have had a cheaper price, but didn't really bother.

“Nice rooms but noisey, bad food, bad service and questionable security.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

We were initially given a price of 500 pesos which we bargained down to 450. We later met a couple who did not speak Spanish and were paying 650 for an identicle room. Management are clearly not above taking advantage of people.

The room we had (204) was nice if a little cramped, a feeling not helped by the low ceiling. The wi fi signal was fairly strong and the water pressue of the shower was good. The tv didn't work but this didn't really bother us until one day when we just wanted to relax. We brought this up with the staff and were given another room (209). Apparently the tv card doesn't work in a number of the rooms. This room was huge with a kingsize bed.

There was a lot of noise from fairly early in the morning right though to late at night - screaming kids running around unsupervised, inconsiderate adults talking and laughing loudly. This may be partly due to the design of the builidng (the sound echoing around the courtyard) and obviously depends on who is staying there.

And to the food (breakfast and dinner included in the price). The quality was generally bad. Low grade meat, watery over cooked rice, dried up scrambled eggs. I've eaten in many a budget restaurant in Mexico which served much higher quality food. In fact if I was served food like this in a restaurant I would send it back and not expect to pay. The fact that meals are included in the price is no excuse to serve people prison slop. Some of the waiting staff were at least friendly but one in particular was really miserable. The receptionist wasn't a barrel of laughs either.

There was also a security issue with the cleaners. It seems they would go into the rooms to clean and then leave the doors wide open whilst cleaning others before returning to leave fresh towels. Anyone could have walked in. They didn't seem to understand our concern about this.
