“Lovely motel on main street of creel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011 via mobile

Motel itself was nice and good value. Staying in creel is a bit of a waste though - there is a lodge called sierra lodge out of town which we wished we had stayed at however the best western is good on all fronts in itself. We were driven in from chihuahua and wished we had gone just a few miles out to feel like we were in the canyon. Getting into the canyon is the objective and this is a gateway motel which does the trick.

“OK for a base”

Recommended by 3 Amigos. Typical Best Western. Room cross between log cabin and Swedish sauna. Our room right by car park so a bit noisy, but clean and ok value. Bit disappointed with Creel which is an ideal location for trips, but not one thing or another. A lot of small shops selling tourist souveniers and cafes/restaurants/bars (food not very inspiring). Great fun in evening to watch locals driving up and down the main street (cars and horses), but not a lot to see (not close enough to canyon to walk - need a bike or transport. We took tour with 3 Amigos which was excellent). Restaurant in BW almost empty, but food mediocre and service poor considering lack of business. Bar OK apart from huge TVs which dominated the room and the missing barman. Didn't try the Pizza restaurant. Daphnes in town a lot better for food.

Room Tip: There must be better locally

“Good hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2010

Large rooms with good facilities and an effective heating system which we needed. We only had breakfast but that was fine. Like many others, we ate at Veronicas in the evening, the choice was good, as was the food. The town is small with the hotel and most restaurants shops etc on the same strip so location is good.

Perfect accommodations, charming town, excellent wood oven pizzeria at the lodge.

An extremely pleasant staff and the manager Salvador was muy simpatico.

We hope to return soon and spend some time exploring the amazing area.

All is well!!

“Clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2010

Spent 2 nights in Creel. This seems to be the most promising place to stay in town. Rooms were comfortable, and the gas heater kept us plenty warm (even though temperatures got down to 25F). The motel itself certainly is big. That said, there was only one other party besides us in the entire place when we were there. Unfortunately, they were put in the room immediately adjacent to ours, and several times at night (for inexplicable reasons) tried to enter our room through the locked door linking this apparent suite (?). The night watchman (I hope?) also paid us a little visit late at night as well. I'm sure he meant well, but keep your doors locked.

The restaurant - given the lack of guests - was uninviting. We got spaghetti served at the bar. It was okay. Tried the attached cafe for lunch. Menu was original and food was good, but count your change carefully. They tried to take me for several hundred pesos. Veronica's seems to be the best place to eat in town. We had a dinner and breakfast there, and they were both excellent. Very popular with the locals, too. Every other place in town was empty.

3 Amigos offers an interesting array of options for things to do in the area. However, if you're not inclined to rent vehicles, there isn't much to see or do walking around. We wandered up the hill with the Christ statue on it for a nice vista across the town. The cultural museum (just west of the plaza across the tracks) is good, with some labels in English if your Spanish isn't too good. There are lots of tourist shops selling native crafts along the main street. If that's what you're after, skip them all and just go to the Mission Artesan's store on the plaza. They have by far the biggest selection, best prices, and nicely displayed.
