“Excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Didn't stay at the hotel but eat there. We had the 16E menu which was very good. Excellent service. Only serves local bottled beer, which was fine but limited. Car park is around the back but very small. However, there is plenty of on street parking. Nice to be give a larger table for the two of us. Since it was out of the main season it was nice to see that it was busy with locals. Definitely worth a visit.

“Welcoming,Clean,Excellent food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2011

We have stayed in this small, family run Hotel 3 times as a stop-over either to or from Spain.
I agree with all the positive comments on this Hotel and the food in the restaurant is of excellent quality and there is a choice of menus. Check, however, if they are open on a Sunday !
Breakfast is "continental" and also good.
There is private off-road parking to the back -takes about 6 cars- so could be full if the hotel is busy and you arrive quite late. We have parked in the road in front of the hotel which was fine.
St Jean itself is quite an interesting town and the hotel is a short stroll from the centre.

“A Gem of a Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

Based on the reviews on this website we booked in this hotel and we are really pleased that we did. We started with a very warm welcome and then found the room was bright, clean and comfortable. We stayed in for dinner and we are glad we did, the food was excellent even by French standards. if you need to break your journey in this area this is a lovely hotel to choose. All in all very good value and a pleasant experience.

“Not worth a detour but you won't be disappointed if you do go”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

We dined on a Sunday - difficult to arrange in France. The menus were well priced and the food competent. Clearly there are touches betraying the owner-chef's time in New Zealand. And these add to the foodie experience.

A neat menu at €16.00, though the fish of the day was simply the cabillaud (cod) offered on the €23.50 menu. The sauce on both fish dishes was too tart - over-powerful lemon skin flavour. The higher cost menu was excellent value - and showed Asian touches unusual in France.

The soup of the day was clearly home-made - and a winner; and the sweets on all menus were excellent.

I expect the house wine in French restaurants to be an advertisement of the standards of the place. Here - well maybe it wasn't a good year ..... But the local beer was pronounced very good (CAMRA member).

We went here while visiting parents and were absolutely delighted! Fantastic food (helpfully there are several levels of set menus - top not cheap!) in lovely surroundings with fabulous service. Unsurprisingly the restaurant was full - Suggest you reserve at weekend.. The whole experience was lovely - I couldnt recommend more.
