“nice price for nice place & nice staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I stayed at bananaquit 2 weeks ago. I was actually checking out reviews for places in st lucia, saw the previous review and felt compelled to defend the staff at bananaquit. I don't know the circumstances around that review but certainly by no means is ms best rude or nasty. There were rooms being renovated at the moment but Ms Best has always been extremely accommodating and helpful and staff was always pleasant. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but my room was always clean after the beach. I am planning on coming back next summer to Tobago, and I will be definitely staying at bananaquit again.

“2012 bananaquit is a no go”

my family and i needed a getaway and from the online reviews we picked bananaquit... and to my great disappointment it was a complete misrepresentation.... right off the bat the manager owner watever.... mrs Rachel Best... was rude to my family... then about twenty mins into showing us a room we didnt ask for showed her nasty attitude.... when we finally got the rooms we asked for... guano.. as in bat poop that had to be cleaned up was still present in the villa... the shower and the stairs and on the blankets on the bed.. my husband almost jumped out of his skin when he realized his foot rubbed on guano on the blanket..... the place a dusty and completely lacking of any charm.... the maid service came in the second day .. i had to tell her not to worry about it cause we're not messy.. the truth is the dirty disgusting smelling water she was using to mop was more disgusting than the place itself... the pool the had advertised isnt there pool but the pool of the next door compound...... first time i took a shower i felt a draft only to look to the window and realize my hand went straight through.. no glass ... and u wonder why there is bats coming in to crap everywhere..... u know we sat down together and discussed this as a family..... the worst part about bananaquit was Rachel best and her inability to manage this establishment and deal graciously with her clients especially as we were not satisfied...several times after our initial meeting and our voicing our dislikes, her poor efforts to smooth things over only made it more disturbing... BANANAQUIT may have once been a nice place to stay but in the year 2012 it is less than desirable .my family and i in all it was 12 of us enjoyed our time in tobago.... when we weren't at bananaquit... the only thing i may have liked was Nadia... one of the cleaners.....so in summary BANANAQUIT---------> FAIL!!!!!!!
RACHEL BEST------------> EPIC FAIL!!!!! and that's me being nice!!!. and FYI if i were to post these pictures mrs best it would surely sink you completely so advice fix that mess and ur website... no one likes a liar!!!

Wow!!!!.....I dare not explain the circumstances of this review, bottom line is it appears I have clearly failed this guest, and failed to see she was still not happy after the rocky start. Sincerest apologies that myself and my staff could not make your 2 night stay here to your satisfaction. I will take certain points into consideration and make improvements where possible. Glad that you still enjoyed your stay in Tobago.

“Amazing experience”

This was my first trip to Trinidad & Tobago and it is definitely a place to come back:

I stayed for 1 week in Banaquit appartments and the below summarizes my experience:

- Bananaquit is located very close to the airport. It is only a couple of minutes drive from the main city, Scarborough and the beaches.
- Management is very friendly and helpful: I felt like being a guest in a friend´s house.
- The rooms were big enough, clean, with A/C, WIFI, confortable bed.
- Easy access to swimming pool.
- Very good price.

Bananaquit is a really nice place to stay for getting the real tobagonian experience.

“Not a great experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Contrary to a lot of reviews, I didn't have a great experience at Bananaquit. First off, upon check-in the office was closed so I had to walk around the property looking for the owners/managers. If I had arrived at some ungodly hour I could understand but if a guest arrives in the late afternoon, the reception should be open and staffed.

From there it went downhill. The property had been fumigated for termites recently and my room had a strong smell of insecticide upon entering. I mentioned that this would have adversely affected my health to the manageress but as they were fully booked there was not much that she could do. She offered to put me in a room they use for the odd guest who needs a place to stay for one night but it wasn't a very nice room. It was dark and had quite a few mosquitoes. Not the sort of place you'd want to stay, which is why they don't normally rent it out. So in the end, we just tried airing out the room for a couple of hours. It helped a bit and I managed my two night stay without a trip to the hospital.

The other thing that really affected me was the pillows. Once I was in bed, my allergies would go into overdrive. It took me a while to figure out that it was the pillows. Good thing I had some anti-histamines with me, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to sleep.

My experience aside, Bananaquit isn't a bad place to stay. It's located on Store Bay Local Road which is right outside the airport. It's actually about a block and a half away from the turn-in to the airport. The apartments are pretty basic but reasonably decorated. Everything in the room worked as you'd expect (except the TV). The manageress was friendly and helpful while I was there. She certainly did try to help out wherever she could. One minor issue was that the website through which I found Bananaquit mentioned that it had a pool and wifi - neither of these were present when I was there. This may be an issue for that website though, and not the property's fault.

Overall, my experience there would stop me from returning there to stay...and also from recommending it. It is entirely possible that other people would have different, more positive experiences. So while I wouldn't recommend it, I wouldn't go as far as saying to stay away from it.

It's unfortunate to have any of my guests have a less than desirable experience, but I do take all reviews very seriously and welcome any constructive criticsim as this is what helps us to provide a better service. The situation with the fumigation could not be helped, this is a yearly service and unfortunately they came on the wrong weekend when we were full, however we were assured that the treatment would be of no harm to the guests despite the odour which we did our best to get rid of. As for the comments regarding the TV, cable wifi and pillows, we have never had complaints from previous guests and it's a shame this guest did not mention all this when staying here as it could have all been easily solved. We are a small establishment so we do not have 24 hour reception, but the manageress does live on site and is available to all guests almost all the time.

Clean apartments, friendly staff and good location. Also very nice pool. Check out the cool little dive bar 10 meters down the street.
