“Very basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Stayed for 22 days with colleagues at this hotel. Rooms are clean enough, some mould in certain bedrooms which maybe a health risk. No bottles of water in rooms. Can be noisy if beside the motorway behind which I was unfortunately. No wifi in hotel itself which is unheard of really in this day and age. Have to leave the building and go to the bar/restaurant next door to send an email. Bar is fine, mostly really nice staff and then a couple of managers that would be unemployable in any other hotel. Some silly little house rules are in place to make sure you can't relax, you cannot open a tab on a room, you cannot eat a sandwich or bowl of olives in bar area(almost always empty anyway). Free access to leisure complex down the road in sister hotel is a bonus. Breakfast is acceptable, all self service even the coffee and toast. Food in general is fine, Carvery is nice when it's on. There is a little scam going on with the hotel manager that I was caught up in, got back to room to find a letter saying I had smoked in room and £150 was deducted from credit card. I haven't smoked in 10 years and could not believe this happened, Luckily I kept calm and got advised to contact local police by my colleagues but money was instantly refunded when hotel manager was made aware that police would be called.

Room Tip: Dont get a room near road

Dear Mr O'Hanlon

Thank you for taking the time to feedback the points of your stay, having visited the hotel on many occasions, I'm just confused as to why now you find the hotel so basic yet you have returned many times.

There are no water in the rooms but this was not requested and being a 3* hotel, would not be expected by most - I appreciate you have stayed at Lion Quays Waterside Resort in the past but being a 4* hotel may be expected.

I'm very pleased to announce that Moreton Park now has FREE WI-FI for all guests to use in their rooms throughout their stay.

I'm so pleased you were able to use the leisure facilities with our compliments.

There was absolutely not 'a scam' going on and having spoken to you (and indeed your managing superior) in depth about this over the phone would not explain in further on Trip Advisor, but this was sorted out professionally as your Manager thanked me for.

Thank you once again for alllowing me to reply to your absurd allegation

Warmest regards

“Nice, clean spacious clean and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the nearby Robert Jones Hospital. Had a wheelchair accessible room. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable and noise free. We must recommend the steak and mushroom pie at the restaurant. Its a credit to them and to me is the best value meal they do there as you get loads. I would not recommend the lamb shank. its too small. I'm speaking from experience here as I have tried this twice before on previous occasions and have have hardly had any lamb. This place is ideal if you are touring around North wales and Shropshire. Guests can take advantage of the excellent leisure facilities at the Lion Quays resort too

Room Tip: get a room away from the view of the main road.

“won't be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Took 3 days to sort out a problem with the hotel over-charging us, despite us having written confirmation of the booked price and repeated correspondence with bookings.com, whom the hotel tried to blame for the mix-up. The manager was not made available at all throughout our 2 night / 3 day stay despite 3 or 4 requests for her to contact us, and her delegates did not have the authority to do anything other than recite the memo she had left for them. It was only sorted out after check-out, presumably because we left a message stating that Mastercard had confirmed that they would refund us upon receipt of our original booking and inflated invoice.

Other staff generally friendly and helpful, with the exception of the person on check-out duty who was unhelpful and bordering on rude.

Original room had faulty shower so had to switch rooms only to find no hot water available at 11pm as the boiler had been switched off (no explanation given) so I had to wait til the next morning for a shower and heating. I should say that the night porter was very helpful and apologetic. The originally empty room we moved to was very cold and with no boiler on the radiators were useless so our first night was not very comfortable.

The glasses in our room were dirty and the mugs in my sister in law's room were also dirty. One of the radiators in our room did not work, though the other one thankfully did once the boiler was returned to service.

Next time I travel this way I will definitely not be returning to this hotel.

Food in adjacent pub is ok if you're hungry and don't want to drive anywhere. The motel is a bit of a trek to Chirk on foot but if you take the car there are a few other pubs and a handful of restaurants.

If you're a light sleeper I'd request a room at the back as there is a lot of traffic noise from the main road out front. This didn't bother me at all but kept my mother-in-law awake.

Finally, I was intruiged by the fact that our "disabled access" room had the main bed up a flight of stairs and a sofabed on the ground floor - presumably any wheelchair users either need to crawl up a flight of stairs or use the sofabed? If using a wheelchair I would recommend checking how accessable your room actually is before booking.

Dear i_need_a_coffee

I'm very disappointed to hear that you were disappointed with your stay, I would say that your words of feedback to not run in line with almost all of the others.

At Moreton Park we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and maintenance of our rooms (as you can see with other feedback points) so please accept my apologies if we did not live up to your expectations.

I'm sorry you had issues with your invoice, I was not avoiding you but on annual leave at the time. I'm also sorry that you wouldn't stay again. With the hotel and the facilities offered, we have so many regular visitors as made to feel like a home from home

Kind regards

Stayed here for 5 nights in a wheelchair accessible room.

Excellent facilities for wheelchair users and able bodied

Comfortable bed

Clean room

Helpfull staff

Large bathroom

Lovely shower

Restaurant has a good selection of food but booking a table is highly recommended as it's popular

Country club and gym facilities are provided nearby at the lion quays hotel and country club who are part of the same company. The gym and pool facilities here are outstanding.

However, having said that the swimming pool doesn't have a hoist so wheelchair users can't get in which is a great shame as everything else is great. I'm sure this is an oversight. Upon enquiring I found out that there are a number of wheelchair users that use the gym but not the pool. Perhaps if a small investment in a hoist was made then they and more wheelchair userswould use the pool. They are reasonable enough to buy and install. Please if you read this consider this request! Everything else is accessible including the jacuzzi.

“comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

the moreton park lodge motel is a great stop off for visiting north Wales, Chester, Liverpool & Manchester area with great road connections. rooms are extremely clean which is testament the housekeeper and her team, Room rates are quite competitive but have gone up considerably in the last few months from £29 to £64 which i paid this time in only a matter of a couple of months, corridors are looking tired and could do with updating,Reception staff are extremely friendly, pub next door is good with really friendly staff and good beer! rooms are well equipped with everything you should need, beds comfortable and as i said spotlessly clean

Room Tip: ask for a car park side room

Dear beth p

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback of your stay with us. We pride ourselves on our cleanilness and comfort factors - We try to be a 'home from home'

The price of £29 was a promotional campaign and as I'm sure you would agree was very very cheap - Especially for a 3* star hotel with the facilities the Moreton Park Hotel offers.

We look forward to welcoming back to the hotel again soon

Kind regards
