“Hotel & Room not clean”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed on the weekend break deal in room 204 which included a bottle of wine in our room. The reviews had been very good which influenced us.

The greeting from the receptionist was little more than sign here & here your room is to the right up the stairs. On the landing up those stairs were 2 artificial plants covered in dust and the most disgustingly stained light coloured sofa. Our room contained no comfortable seats to relax and enjoy the wine, just 2 hard backed dining style chairs. At this point wy wife contacted reception to ask for a more comfortable room but this request was refused.

After unpacking we then noticed dust and fluff on the carpet next to the skirting board, the electric kettle base and the tea making area under a glass panel were filthy. In to the bathroom and 2 small alcoves looked as if it was a long time since they were cleaned and the closet under the sinks where the spare toilet roll was kept had a shelf stained with brown slime which when we applied a tissue to could have been easily wiped clean.

So this had set the mood for our stay and this dirtyness could not compensate for the excellent meal and service at dinner.

Following morning we slept quite late and found there was no hot water. So we contacted reception, it was the same receptionist." I'll check the boiler" was her reply 3 times after I asked if it was a hotel problem or just our room. A few minutes later she phoned back to confirm the boiler had gone off was back on and we should have hot water in 10 minutes, there was no hint of apology. 15 minutes later the water was not hot enough to shower so instead of our daily showers we had to boil the kettle to wash.

I was able to speak to a manager later that day who apologised and noted our concerns.

When we got home I emailed the chains Customer Services with these concerns. I did not receive a reply from them but the email had been forwarded to the hotel's general manager who replied with more emphasis on "the positives" that we had enjoyed our dining room experience and although stating he would look at our issues obviously could not grasp how our weekend, which was a Christmas present from our daughters, had been spoiled by the unacceptable lack of basic cleanliness.

Room Tip: Bring your vacuum cleaner and cleaning materials.

Thank you for your recent review. As the review states I have been in direct contact with the guest regarding their stay. I very much regret that they felt my response was unsatisfactory; I did thank them for their kind comments on the food and service, however the main element of my letter to them was very much an apology. As you will see from other reviews, the comments we get about our hotel are very positive overall. Please be assured that we do take all guest comments very seriously indeed and I do hope these guests will consider returning to our hotel in the future so that we may be allowed the opportunity to restore their faith within us.

“Great hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012 via mobile

We have just returned from the Brook Meadow with our 19 month old daughter and felt like we were visiting the family rather than staying in a hotel. In my opinion it all starts and ends with service. This is a delightful hotel with an attentive host and fantastic staff. Food in the evening was good and the cosy lounge was ideal for relaxing once the little one had fallen to asleep. It's an ideal base for both Chester and Liverpool and so much nicer than those corporate high rise towers that keep springing up everywhere!

“Ideal for a "Bargain Break"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed here over a chilly weekend in December on one of the Oxford Inns special deals and found the hotel to be comfortable and as remarked by others the standard of food is excellent.
However if I have to nit pick, yes our room was tired in appearance and by no means immaculate and whilst we don't come away to watch tv the sets provided are almost out of the ark and definitely could do with upgrading. Our jacuzzi bath did work and I enjoyed using it although I was very conscious of how noisy it was and if I thought the hotel was full might have thought twice about it in order not to disturb other guests!
We were also somewhat puzzled that the hotel seems to insist that if you eat off the bar/lounge menu you have to eat it in the bar/lounge, which isn't really conducive to eating in comfort, even though the restaurant was practically empty the two days we were there. Indeed we would have enjoyed some company on our first night when we had the restaurant practically to ourselves, yet after the meal we overheard a couple in the lounge complaining they had not been able to eat their meal in the restaurant.
Would I stay here again - well yes - but I think due to the somewhat drab room furnishings and minor shortcomings - only on a good deal package like the one we obtained.

“great food”

We stayed here for 2 nights over the new year and had a great time. All of the staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The new years eve celebrations were great, a fabulous meal cooked to perfection and with a good selection of choices for each course and followed by a disco that played the right type of music for the general age group that were staying (mainly 50 years upwards). Breakfast was also a culinary delight with, again, an extensive choice available and another excellent evening meal on new years day. The hotel itself is quite remote and a car is more or less a necessity when staying here although Hooton station is about a 20 minute walk, ok if the weather is fine but not so good if it's wet or cold. The rooms are comfortable with all of the facilities that you would expect from a 3* hotel but they could probably benefit with updating (old furniture and ancient televisions in the bedrooms) but you only sleep and get showered in there so what the heck and the quality of the food more than compensates. Thanks to all the staff at Brook Meadow and we will probably see you all again next new year.

Room Tip: 212 a good size with a nice view, 211 slightly smaller.
