We make a trip to Niseko every year, but our usual hotel was booked out early by school trips, so we had to find a suitable replacement this year. Not too much good or bad to say about J-First as it's very typical for an older Niseko ski hotel.
Rooms were small, but not smaller than other Japanese type hotels. Breakfast was pretty typical buffet service. Don't expect anything special. The guests were a good mix of Japanese and foreigners, so the hotel staff could communicate in English a bit.
The hotel does have a ski shop in the basement, so you can get your equipment tuned and waxed if needed. They also have a big changing room with storage lockers, so no worries about stolen articles. The ski shop and lockers were a very nice convenience.
But, far and away the best thing about this hotel is it's location. It's right off the main parking lot at the top of the Hirafu village main street. Easy access to the ski lifts as well as all the restaurants and bars in Hirafu. And since the airport bus stops right in front of the hotel, no carrying your heavy gear while searching for your hotel / condo!
Would stay here again in a pinch.
