We had booked an overnight stay at this rather well located hotel that is also becoming a little tired. It had a very welcoming English speaking receptionist, who was rather graceful at my poor attempts at speaking French. She also assisted at breakfast, again with a friendly smile making guests feel welcome.
Plenty of car parking spaces outside so you don't have to pay the hotel a reservation fee. Good security to allow guests electronic push button hotel access after 22:00 hrs.
The room was average but clean. It isn't soundproofed at all so beware of noisy neighbours! The tv has no English channels to catch up with news. The bathroom had an awful pink suite and black floor tiles! Its door handle fell off and there was no holder for the shower head nor was there a shower curtain. Breakfast is expensive for what was provided - a rather limited choice compared to other hotels.
We booked via Trivago, which only gave one hotel in the town when we searched. On walking around we saw several though, one or two that would have been well worth investigating.
There is an 'Irish pub' nest door which has some sort of affiliation with the hotel. The food was good, but the service there was awful; the waitresses being uninterested in service and kept us waiting - probably due to the language barrier and we were their short straw! (You can't be proficient in the language of every country you visit!)There are other restaurants we discovered further up the hill towards the church that seemed quite nice. Shame we didn't walk up there when we arrived, but the sleet prevented too much exploration.
It's an average hotel worth the 56 Euros for one night, but it needs competition to raise its game. Trivago could start this off by showing other options at the time of booking.
