“Quality hotel for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2011

Me and my girlfriend stayed there for a weeks ski holiday and had the best time ever! the hotel is quite far away from the slopes and the center but its in the middle of stunning woodland, and the we always got free taxis from restarunts in the town all you have to do is ring them. All the staff where very friendly (we only arrived in the middle of night and there was a snack waiting for us on the side of the bed) and the reps for Nielson where the best i have seen in ages.
The rooms were clean and comfy with everything from dressing gowns to sowing kits included. The bar was small and boring but the Pamporovo town is cheap so you could go out every night and still spend the same ammount of money. I have to say the local food was a bit funny lookin and a bit missmatched but I tryed everything and it didnt make me ill and tasted nice.
All in all me and the mrs had a great time there and would return anytime i go skiing in bulgaria

Room Tip: We got a suite it was only £20 more each

“Never ever stay at Hotel Finlandia”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

Please do not waste your hard earn money on Hotel Finlandia. The location of the hotel is far to far away from the resort and ski slopes. There are only a number of shuttle buses you can take to get to the resort at certain times which is quite annoying and also have to be paid for. After 10pm there are no shuttle buses back to the hotel from the resort so one has to get a taxi which is around 15lev. The staff in the hotel are not friendly and dont provide much service. Food at the hotel is dismal. At breakfast there was a very poor selection to chose from and the "hot" food was not hot. One of the biggest things to annoy me while staying there was the noise from the pipes in the rooms from the water going to the radiators. It would wake me up a number of times during the night and i was unable to get back to sleep. Staff were informed about this noise but nothing was done to sort the problem out. The bar in the hotel was only open on one eveining we returned to the hotel after skiing, so its practically none existent. The decor in the hotel could also be improved, its stuck in the 80's and my bedroom stinked of smoke. Disgusting. While it may be cheaper than the other hotels in the resort, i would pay the extra for another hotel as i will certainly never stay in Finlandia again.

“Disgusting dump, awful manager.... Mariana!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

Avoid this squalid dump at all costs. It is drab, unfriendly and unaccomodating. I travelled with 3 friends, booked 2 twin rooms. We were given 2 double rooms and mine smelled so badly of stale smoke it turned both our stomachs. I was sharing a room with a friend and had to share a bed with him, as did my other 2 friends have to share a bed. We complained and were told there was no other rooms available and besides "I cant move ye to another room until the manager is here." We complained to the rep the following day and he approached the staff who advised they would move us to new rooms the next day so another night in smelly disgusting room sharing a bed. The next day we were met by receptionist and another member of staff who told us we would be moved that afternoon, from what we were told the previous day we therefore assumed this was the manager. This particular woman was extremely rude. We were moved to new rooms by the time we arrived back to the hotel that evening. That night I awoke to a scurrying sound at 3am, turned on the light to find a mouse in our bin, we rang reception, no answer, so threw the bin over the balcony and informed receptionist the next day, she apologised and nothing more was said of it. The lobby bar closes at 11, we accept that, but arrived back to the hotel around 12 to find staff at the bar, we asked if we could have a drink, they agreed saying "if you keep your voices down." We discussed amongst ourselves what cocktails to have and were shushed by the staff. We werent speaking loudly, lowered our voices further but continued to talk and were then abruptly asked "will ye just go to bed?" The food in the restaurant, whether the half board restaurant or the BBQ is vile unheated pig swill. When we got home we made a complaint through the travel agent listing everything I just mentioned and got a reply from hotel manager Mariana Zgourova blatantly calling us liars, claimed none of it was true except for the issue with the rooms, she never acknowledged our complaint about the smell. She claims she has never met us, well if you arent the manager we met that day Mariana then we were misled into believing that woman at reception was management because she was able to move us to a new room and we were distinctly told that could only happen when a manager is here. Your staff who denied our complaints are liars. Mariana also had the cheek to state that despite them moving us to twin rooms we continued sharing beds. You are not in a position to make that assumption Mariana!!!!! You are cheeky and rude, your hotel is a disgusting disgrace and you need to get off your high horse. Avoid this nightmare

“Good average ski resort hotel but too far from resort / ski lifts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

Hale Family - Intermediate skier Adults with 4 year begginer.

Lets face it if you have been other ski resorts on budget holidays you will know this is a perfectly average bulgarian skiing hotel. The rooms are probably late 80's / early 90's and showing theirt age. The 3 bed room we had for 2 adults and 4 year old was roomy but with no opening windows ,poorly ventilated . It was either door fully open or no fresh air. Central heating was efficient so if you like airless hot rooms you would be happy.

Food
Avergae Bulgarian resort food. The serving bain marie / trolley was never plugged in so food was always cold. Selection ..average for price/Bulgaria ...I happen to like rice / salads and fried chicken / kebabs ..others might not.

True " I love only english grub !!" type people should stay away.

Free drink with meal ?? ..dont ask for wine ...undrinkable. !!

Local Beer in bottles - Zagorka (Becks Type) 500ml for 3.30 levs £1.50 perfectly drinkable

Transport
The brochure (Neilson) said free ski bus from hotel runs throughout day ...no it doesnt ..
3 buses in morning 8:45; 9:15 and 9:45 same coming back off slopes. ... 3:15; 3:45:and 4:15 if you miss these you have to sort to predatory local taxis at 17 levs each way ..about £8.00 at todays exchange rates.

The same goes for trip into Pamporov itself at night ... 3 buses in and 3 out ..last one out at 10:00pm ...otherwise taxis ....at night 20 levs..each way £9

Hotel Facilites
Nice swimming pools, 1 small for kids and i x 20metre for decent swim ,sauna and steam room.

Skiing in resort ...FOR BEGINNERS ONLY -- If we were without child and just skiing all day --- day 2 or 3 would have become boring.

Mountain Food..... Pizzas,Burger chips ...Spag Bol - very bland !!!

Summary
Good average hotel for price but too reliant on limited ski bus / taxis to recommend to anyone but begiiners / stay at home family groups.
Skiing for beginners only.
transfer times of 4 hours to long for reduction in price.

Advice
Set your budget and go elswhere !
