“Excellent Hotel, Brilliant Ski Area, But Rubbish Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

This was a great hotel. We stayed in the actual hotel, not the apartments which are attached. The hotel was great, room for myself and son was fantastic, comfy very clean, stylish, over-looking the piste and chairlift. Food was good quality and well cooked, hot, but a bit repetitious.

This is a great place to stay if you are with a family, and not planning on great apres ski etc, but its big downside is that it is isolated in the village of El Tarter. There simply is bugger all around it, so you have to get the bus about 2 kilometers to Soldeu. Not a problem, but the buses stop running at 9pm, and the road walking back in the dark is without pavements and hazardous.

The ski area (Grandalavira) is enormous, and has something for everyone. If you could move this hotel up to Soldeu, i cannot imagine a better place to stay when skiing in Andorra. Bottom line is this...what are you expecting to do after the skiing finishes? If you are happy eating in the hotel, and staying there for a few drinks, go for it big time, but if you really expect a night life after your skiing, you perhaps need to check out some of the hotels in Soldeu (which incidently is linked on the slopes, and your ski pass covers both resorts in addition to three others.

Contrary to other reviews, we found the staff great (including the bar staff), everyone was very helpful, restaurant was well run and the staff there well drilled in service and waitering on. No probs at all.

“GOOD HOTEL IN A GOOD LOCATION”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

This was our seventh consequetive year at the Nordic.
We chose it because it is less expensive than the equivelant in Soldeu.
Over the years the quality of the food had been slowly going down.
Either the chef and /or the budget was changed and now is as good as it ever was-excellant.
The only downsides to Skiing in Andorra on a package holiday are Toulose airport and the transfer half way stop.Tolouse is the worst airport we have experinced. There are never enough staff to cope and I dont think we have ever taken of on time because they
are unable to handle the numbers with the number of check in staff. On our return transfer ther were approx 1,000 people at the half way stop. You had a choice in the 30 mins allowed to queue of the loo or food.
If we go to Soldeu/El Tarter again we will explore an alternative to Tolouse airport and the transfer.
It is agreat pity as we have skied in Soldeu/El Tarter in most of the last 25 years!

“Not a 4 star, but location is exceptional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

I went with my family to Nordic for new year holliday, and I can confirm all the expectations I had:
- location is exceptional, right in front of the slopes
- the building and the rooms are confortable
- there is not a wide variety of food. For me the worst part for a 4 star hotel
- reception has few people and service is not much professional
Overall sligthly above average althought expensive in this time of the year

“Fantastic location average hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

The fantastic location means we've stayed at this hotel 3 times since 2007. I would rate it as a European 3 star rather than a 4 star quality hotel.

The rooms are fairly basic consisting of: twin beds (not the most comfortable - double is not an option), a TV with most channels in Spanish, a safe (charged locally), en suite bathroom. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ski slopes with 2 seats & small table, very refreshing in morning or afternoon where you can watch other skiers making their way down the slopes. Rooms and en suite are small but fit for purpose. To avoid buying the expensive bottled water in the hotel I'd definitely recommend stocking up on bottled water from a local supermarket (a good 20min walk from the hotel) for your room - the rooms can get quite warm and after a days skiing you need lots of water.

Breakfast consisted of the usual continental fare and/or a cooked breakfast of choice of eggs, bacon, local sausage, breads etc. Dinner is typically served quite late (from around 8pm) but always had a great selection and pretty good food.

The hotel bar is fine for a few drinks but they have the most awful resident 'band' I've ever heard - very funny the first night but definitely gets more grating as the week wears on.

As other reviewers have already said the biggest drawback is the smoky bar which drifts upwards towards the rooms.

The best feature of this hotel is its location - each room is assigned a ski locker in the basement of the hotel, it's a short walk to the back door where you put your skis on and ski 150 metres to the chair lift - fantastic! There is a choice of ski runs to take you back to the hotel at the end of the day a very easy blue, a slightly harder blue and a black run which all drop you right at the back door or the hotel bar - so it's great for beginners/experts alike.

The nordic also has a great ski hire shop attached to it and a cafe/bar next door which makes a nice change for lunch off the piste.

Facilities inside the hotel are limited; there is a TV room (just hope you grab the TV remote first) with a couple of PCs, a very small (and cold) swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room (which wasn't working during our last stay), a bowling alley (I've never seen open), a bar which serves tea, coffee, hot chocolate and the normal alcoholic & soft drinks (very reasonable prices much cheaper than usual hotel prices) with lots of seating and a reception area.

In short - if you are not a skier do not stay at this hotel.. if you like a lively nightlife - do not stay at this hotel. If you love skiing/ you're a beginner/ travelling with friends/family and are not into the apres ski scene then this is the place to go.
