“Feed like a king, treated like a friend”

The Scourie Guest House is one of those wonderful finds that you just don't want to leave behind. Ken and Madeline are wonderful hosts and the rooms are charming, clean and well-appointed. But, what takes this B&B to that special level of charm and fond memories is the food. Upon arrival, Madeline greeted me with a slice of fresh homemade shortbread and tea. Earlier, at Ken's request, I had called to review the day's dinner menu and oh what a fine menu he offered. It wasn't that the selection was huge - it was that I wanted to have everything he offered me!! That night I was treated to a gourmet meal, which I would challenge any Michelin 3-star chef to top. Next morning's full Scottish breakfast was equally fine, especially the fresh-baked goodies. A delectable find, you will be feed like you are a king, but treated as a dear friend. Cannot ask for better!!

“Pleasant overnight stay - would have liked longer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

I stayed at Scourie Guest House one night with my 13 year old son. My original intention was to travel between Tongue and Ullapool in one day, but I thought I would be diverted by the stunning scenery so decided to break the journey in Scourie. I made the right decision.

There are 3 guest rooms; two upstairs including our twin room and one downstairs. There is guest parking to the front of the house.

The bedroom was compact but very pleasant with windows to the front and rear. Soft furnishings were in relaxing shades of green and on each bed was a teddy bear with a green bow. These matched the large teddy on the landing. The room was well provided with facilities including an ensuite shower room, flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities with homemade shortbread and most usefully a small fridge so we could enjoy fresh milk with the tea/coffee and chilled bottled water.

We were unable to sample the evening meal, (which looked delicious), as a party had already pre-booked but our host, Ken, recommended the bar meals at the Scourie Hotel about 5 minutes walk away, which were fine. The breakfast was good with free range eggs from a neighbour's hens.

The guest house is well supplied with information on the local area including books covering local walks. I wished we could have stayed longer.

“Welcoming, homely and delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

I was lucky to stay here for 2 nights with my Mum. Immediately felt a good vibe with Ken's warm welcome to us both. Lovely cosy room - felt like being a log cabin with view to the sea on one side and birds++ at the feeders in the garden through the other. Home made biscuits and FRESH milk (always a winner). We enjoyed 2 delicious 3 course evening meals plus coffee and homemade truffles. BYOB. Madeline is a fabulous cook and her butternut squash and coconut soup is truly amazing. No slouch with the breakfasts either; her spicy tomato juice is a real pick-me-up for breakfast if you can resist the home squeezed OJ and that's just for starters! Ken and Madeline offer true Highland hospitality and yummy food.

“Long weekend of excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

After a long drive north we were greeted by our wondeful hosts, Ken and Madeline Stephen. They took us into there lovely warm home and looked after us in every way they could. They did this to all of there guests over the 3 days we were there. The room was very clean and comfy. The home cooked food was just out of this world and there was plenty of it. They just couldn't do enough for us and the other guests. This delightful B&B is a must to go to when travelling up into Sutherland. Will we go back there? Most definately.
