“Great Hostel”

I visited the hostel in winter and although there were few guests the hostel was open and well heated. The staff were friendly and welcoming with plenty of information on activities available. The rooms were tidy and well presented. The location is in a scenic valley at the foot of Donegal's highest peak, Errigal. The views are breathtaking and the air fresh. breakfast is in the price which is great value. The hostel has a community room where you can chill, watch TV/DVDs and a computer suite to catch up on emails etc. Very nice overall.

“One of the best hostels that I have stayed in”

The Limerick climbing club used Errigal hostel as its base, it was very clean and perfect location for hill walking. The facility was very clean and modern with a shop next door and a pub within 200 metres. A big thanks to Karl and his staff for making our stay so pleasurable and with the good weather we got to see Donegal in all its splendor. we will be making a return to this hostel.

“One of the best - mountain view rooms”

Surprised there is only a few reviews on this hostel. It is well written up by Lonely Planet and deservedly so, it is very, very good. Practically new the stonework is superb, the room I had I managed to jag a dorm by myself, in May, and in beautiful weather. And at the foot of the mountain so what a view to wake up to. Kind of a shame I was by myself really! Facilities are top rate, kitchen and dining are very spacious and the design of the building allows maximum natural light and heat in, obviously built with the cold weather in mind, very smart. Yes you should bring supplies with you as there is limited town amenities, but certainly enough to make yourself a meal and have a few drinks - try the Leo pub as recommended by Lonely Planet, only a short drive away, full of characters and even better if you are a Clannard or Enya tragic. And of course - climb the mountain, it is not hard and begs to be scaled, try and avoid the boggy bits. Great place, a highlight of my two weeks in Ireland. Washing room also very good.

“Superb...yet again.”

This was the second stay at the errigal youth hostel for my girlfriend and I. No doubt about it, we will be heading to it again for a third time someday soon! Last year we had stayed with another couple in one of the 6-bed mezzanine, which was fantastic. This time we were in one of the 2-bed ensuite rooms. They are very basic, but have everything needed for a comfortable stay. We arrived at about 9pm (thank goodness the reception is open until 10pm) and we were greeted by the friendly staff. We were shown to our room on the ground floor which was clean and tidy. The kitchen is open 24hours, so were able to get a bite to eat before crashing onto our beds for a well deserved sleep after travelling all day.
There is a simple breakfast served each morning of cereals etc. The view from the kitchen is spectacular, over looking the lake nearby. And not to forget the breathtaking view of mount errigal just out the back of the hostel. There is a pub and garage within walking distance and wonderful walks and beaches only s short car journey away.
We had a wonderful time at this hostel yet again, and will be heading back again for another relaxing and adventure packing break.

“Breathtaking Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2007

As youth hostels go, this has to be one of the best in Europe. At the foot of the majestic Errigal, Donegal's highest peak, and directly adjacent to the Poisoned Glen (don't let the name fool you, as it is full of life), this place is a gem. Newly refurbished, the hostel has a great kitchen and common room, with large picture windows allowing guests to take in the stunning secnery. I stayed in a twin room - very good for a hostel, with an en suite wet room. Highly recommended.
