“Great place with stacks of character”

My wife and I stayed here for four nights as part of our honeymoon. The place is more of a high class guest house than a hotel, and good antidote if you get frustrated by chains and their generic customer service.

The staff were the friendliest and most helpful that we experienced on our trip. Dining at the restaurant was a great experience - you pay 50euro pp and get four wonderful locally inspired courses with free flowing drinks included, service was perfect.

We stayed in one of the apartments which was spacious with great touches such as free soft drinks included and anti mossie plug ins.

The pool was nice enough and gardens were very pretty.

Dear Stillness,
Thank you so much for your kind and positive review of 2010! We are so happy you felt we were a high class guest house and not a hotel. We try to give high standard services with a personal touch. This gives a chance to our staff to keep a good relationship with our guests, remembering their names, rooms and needs.
Our restuarant has improved greatly as we have now two young local chefs that are inspired by ancient receipies but twist them giving them modern flavours. Our wine list has also improved and expanded to include the best of italian wines.
We do hope to see you here soon again,

Best Regards,

“Heaven on earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

Thanx to my husband who has such a talent for finding the best places to stay in the world, we were guests at the Borgo Storico Seghetti Paninchi. It is Absolutely Lovely; heaven on earth, the garden of Eden, main house with the original furniture feels like a real home, so comfortable and chique.

Hostess Maria Rita was so very, very kind to us and even gave us a tour through the castello, explaining its history, architecture, info about its family-owner and its present function, THE BEST PLACE TO CELEBRATE YOUR WEDDING OR OTHER SPECIAL OCCASSION.

We booked an appartment: 2-stories, very spacious, even a small kitchenette. Had 5-star dinner one evening in the Borgo's restaurant, with ao. local delicatesse (fried olives stuffed with tuna) and huge sage leafs in the lightest tempura, the best ever!!!!

But the absolute super bonus of the Borgo is its garden: just walking through it means instant ZEN for your body and mind, with water, roses, all kinds of trees so high - they must be hundreds of years of age, some very rare beautifull tall gingko biloba trees.

Visit the Borgo in May, like we did, and enjoy the garden, pool, breakfast for yourself alone, just like we did. And do not forget to visit the small family chapel, so charming with all the precious family memories in it.

Only minus for us where the neighbouring (stray) dogs who live across the hills surrounding the Borgo, they kept barking and barking some nights. But nothing anyone in the Hotel can do about that.

Final comment: on the website the Borgo may look absolutely far away from the rest of the world, on a mountain somewhere, but in fact, when you get there, it is on a hill overlooking the places nearby. So you do see urbanisation. There is even some industry surrounding the hill. But fortunately the Borgo is surrounded enough by all kinds of exotic trees to feel absolutely secluded and far away from buzzy civilization. The ultimate relax place to feel at home and as a 5-star guest at the same time!!!!

Dear Italiefan,
Thank you so much for the heart felt review you wrote on the Borgo in 2010. In these few years we have improved enormously the gardens, planting new flowers and trees that add that extra touch of magic to the whole experience. The bio energetic areas are still our favourite aspect of the gardens as people enjoy so much reading, resting or listening to music in the correct areas for their bodies.
Maria Rita is still here with us and she is not only the Front Desk Manager but also the wedding planner for all our events, big or small. She has followed various courses around Italy and can now create the most exquisite tailormade atmospheres for the most bespoke events.
Our restaurant is now run by two young local chefs that have great passion in ancient recepies and ingredients, stuffed olives are still a must but they could be tasted after a vegetarian "shaked" pasta!
Our surroundings have not changed, we are close to the town of Castel di Lama that offers all kinds of helpful things to our guests: butcher, supermarket, street market, veg and fruit stores, cinema, bars, restaurants, ceramic, clothes and shoe shops. What we actually see from the Borgo are the beautiful Abruzzo hills and the Sibillini mountain range. The buildings in the valley are all commercial and not industrial.
We really hope to see you here soon again!

After a long journey from Rome, up through mountains and navigating snow and ice we eventually arrived at the hotel. The hotel was closed on arrival as it was 2300hrs but we eventually met one of the staff (Dev) who was so helpful it made you feel guilty for arriving late, after this stumble the holiday turned in to a fairy tale, the acommodation left us open mouthed in amazement, the scenery was stunning the staff were stunning and so helpful, the whole experience is one we will never forget, a big thank you to maria rita and the rest of the staff for making this a trip of a life time
THANK YOU.

Dear Dusty904,
Also if a bit late (!), we wanted to thank you with all our hearts for the lovely review you wrote on the Borgo in 2009. All our staff is still here, Dev and Maria Rita included and after all these years we have become one big family! We have done quite a few improvements since your last stay, both in the interiors and gardens and we hope to be able to share them with you again soon.

Warm Regards and Best Wishes,

“Fit for a Princess”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

We ended out 6 week holiday in Southern Italy with two nights at the Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi. We had a terrible time finding it, (we will never again travel without a GPS), but once we did we loved it. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, filled with exotic flowers and a marvellous collection of modern sculptures. The main house which was originally a medieval fortress, is now the home of a real Italian Princess who lives there with her two beautiful Irish setters. We did not stay in the main house, but we were allowed to tour it. It is magnificent. Our accomodation was one of five in a outer building near the pool and the restaurant. It was luxurious: Two floors, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small kitchen, huge livingroom and dining room, soft robes, and a patio complete with a table and chairs and a view of the mountains. The concierge is very charming and helpful. The breakfast is wonderful and dinner in the restaurant is amazing. We had to leave early to catch a plane, but we were told that we could stay all day at no extra charge. This is truly a 5 star hotel with 6 star service. We wish we had planned to stay longer.

“Very comfortable hotel with lots of personality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2008

This place is difficult to desribe. It is a cross between a great B&B and a fancy hotel, but it also feels like a private home where you happen to be a guest - a grand home, at that.

The rooms in the main house (they have apartments in a separate building, we did not stay there) are very large and decorated in great style, each different. It is not a hotel decor, it is much more of a decor you would expect in a friends home - if you friends had a grand old house like this one. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are huge, overall everything feels very spacious, private and quiet. They have satellite TV, but no room service. The breakfast is good and served in a very pretty room.

There are very few staff members - but all the basics are covered, someone takes your suitcases up to you room, etc. The place feels quite empty for the most part, but the two great dogs (sleeping, for the most part) guarding the entrance add a charming touch.

The restaurant on the property (located in a separate building) is rather good.

The property is a bid difficult to find amidst a fairly plain and somewhat industrial town. The villa and the gardens are very pretty though.

The place is eccentric, but very comfortable and pleasant. If you expect it to be a country house with a few guest room - you woulod enjoy it. If you expect it to be a bland corporate-looking 4-star hotel - you would not like it.

Will happily stay there again

Dear NToronto,
Thank you so much for the interesting and well written review of 2008. Quite a few things have changed since you came and I am pleased to give you a little insight.
Our main philosphy has always been to be a very much lived in family home opened to the public. We try to personalise as much as possible our services, taking great care of our guests carefully throughout their stay. The rooms in the main villa have increased to 6 and are always decorated with our family's restored furniture. In all our rooms (also in the apartments) we now have a WiFi connection and a free minibar service. Our dear staff members are still here but we cover more areas than a few years ago: lunch by the pool or terrace and drinks at the bar after 6pm. Plus, thanks to our new chefs of the in house restaurant, room service is now available all day long. The town has not changed much but we have increased the beauty of this garden by planting more trees, roses and peonies, in spring it is just magical!
We do hope to see you again here at the Borgo.
