“nice and friendly but dont eat there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

we arrived at the pub to a friendly smile at the bar and showed to our table by a polite waitress. After looking at the tempting range of food on the menu ,i plumped for the chicken with sauteed gnocchi. To cut it short the chicken was overcooked and dry the gnocchi was burnt and inedible and the assortment of onions and prawns was frankly tasteless mush. The wife chose the 8oz burger and triple cooked chips. The chips were simply delicious but the burger was overcooked and too hard for the knife to cut through. My overall assesssment is that if you have a great menu that looks good you should be at least be able to cook it .I would recommend the pub for a nice drink but dont waste money on overpriced food that cannot be cooked right.

“Stay Away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

Food on menu sounds great, posh nosh etc, and a price to go with it, fullof expectations until the food came out, well it looked like food, except there was very lttle of it, went with wife and 2 friends, had a main course and a round of drinks plus a bottle of wine, not much change out of £100, did not order dessert as we were concerned that if a main course cost £18 and got next to nothing, we expected even less for dessert at £6.50,waiter/resses were friendly, but when we raised concern with person at bar he actually stated that the main course wasn't big as he expected people to have 3 courses.
on the upside ended up going to Mcdonalds because we were still hungry, and to feed 4 of us cost less than 1 main course at this pub,and the quality, and quantityt was a lot better.lol

“Not Brilliant !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

Stayed for 4 nights in November whilst in the area on business. Went for a"luxury" room - number 7 which was a decent size but very cold. Restaurant wasn't brilliant, its menu was mainly ponced up pub food, much of the food claims to be sourced locally but none of my 4 evening meals were particularly nice.

Shame, but perhaps thats what the local residents of Penkridge want.

“Parker's Visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Great place, staff very friendly and capable, lovely food and very clean comfortable bed/room, the only down side was the room was above the kitchen extractor fans which ran til after 11pm, also leaking gutter meant the sound running water, to hot too sleep with the window shut yet too noisy open - great place but little or no sleep. Manager did try to improve noise but other fans ran all night - overall would definately go back but would be very specific about which room, maybe as a solo traveller these are the options available.

“A safe choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

I wanted to break up my journey to Cumbria from south east London and picked the Littleton Arms purely because it was half way.

The check-in was fine and indeed the service throughout my brief stay was very good from everyone. The room was large, clean and spacious, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was clean and hot. The room was a bit noisy as I was looking out onto the kitchen extractor fan but that turned off about 11pm and the Wifi connection did not seem to work in the room - possibly would have done in the bar (I didn't ask to be honest).

The food in the evening was was very good although I thought it slightly overpriced. Breakfast was excellent.

Overall, whilst I thought the room rates were also slightly overpriced (not massively so) I would stay here again if in the area.
