“Lovely”

This is a wonderfully refurbished hotel in the heart of Aínsa - on the Plaza Mayor. The rooms are architecturally fun - with an interesting combination of wood, glass, and concrete. We had a room on the top floor with dormers looking out over the mountains (there is no elevator that we saw so don't bring a lot of bags). The room was spacious and had a huge king-sized bed with comfortable bedding. The bathroom was similarly large (and even had a chandelier). Unfortunately, after showering it had a tubería small (something that we found when living in Segovia but are not sure what produces it). Otherwise, we loved the room (and the fact you could drink the cans in the mini-fridge for free :)). And, we managed to get parking directly outside the hotel (which I think is normally not permitted - although I'm not sure where guests would normally park).
The breakfast in the morning was simple but filling. We had freshly prepared coffee every morning and there was a small assortment of pastries and bread, cheese and meats, butter, jams and a very yummy oil and garlic mix.
The location was amazingly central and it was convenient that the proprietor of the hotel ran the store below the hotel - so there was someone there if you needed to ask questions.
Unlike some hotels of this size, the hotel seemed to foster a degree of privacy - where you don't really interact with the other guests or with the people who run the hotel unless you seek it out. However, this could have just been our unique experience.

“The best blend of medieval and modern.”

The medieval square of the Old Town is a perfect setting for a stay in this part of Spain. There are several hotels scattered around the Square but this one, I think, is especially beautifully designed inside. The rooms are very tastefully decorated in a modern, artistic and original style. Our room was big and very comfortable with a very good bathroom and a wonderful view to the mountains behind, from a small balcony. There is not a restaurant in the hotel, but a simple breakfast was included and, for dinner, there is a large choice within Ainsa, so it is not necessary to use the car. A perfect place for 2 or 3 nights, whilst exploring this beautiful and uncrowded part of Spain.

Room Tip: You can choose between a view of the Square in front or a view of the hills behind.

“Nice, small hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

Ainsa is divided in two: the old town, which sits on the hilltop, and the new town that is located along the river valley below. This hotel is in the old town, and is located on the Plaza Mayor, above a shop located on the main floor. It's a fairly small hotel with 7 rooms. We were in room 'Fortun el Monje', which overlooked the plaza Mayor. Sometimes that can be a problem because the central plaza can stay busy and noisy late at night, but in this case the noise level dropped later in the evening, and the plaza was never terribly busy anyways during our stay. Our room was large, with many nice touches like a semi-opaque stone wall separating the bedroom from the bathroom. You can tell that the owners have put a lot of work into making the rooms attractive. Everything was clean, and the bed was nice and comfy. The hotel provides parking in the lot located on the other side of the old castle, and they provide a pass that you can use to enter the lot (don't get this confused with nearer lot on the same side of the castle as the hotel - you have to drive back down the road a short ways, and then along beside the castle and behind it to reach the correct parking lot). There are lots of restaurants to choose from around the square. The hotel provides a decent buffet breakfast, including a full pitcher of orange juice at your table.

“Very relaxing and scenic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

We arrived at the Old Town of Ainsa and parked the car in the car park outside the Plaza Mayor. We did have a walk across gravel with suitcases, but this was okay. We also had to ask for help to locate the hotel and we were delighted with our accommodation. The room was very spacious and reasonable in price. Our TV didn't work, but we were happy to view Monte Perdido (3rd largest mountain in the Pyrenees) from our bedroom window, read and relax. The breakfast was fresh and the hotel was right on the doorstep of many restaurants and bars. There are small museums to visit and a helpful tourist bureau. We drove to the Bielsa Parador and had a superb lunch.

Room Tip: You have a choice of a quiet room with a view of the Pyrenees or a room overlooking the plaza.

“Spacious quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

We stayed here for two nights as part of a motorbike tour around the Pyrenees.

As we were on the bike we had no problems with access to the square but due to local regulations had to move the bike to a nearby car park (pass provided free).

The room is really more of a suite due to the large size and is full of character. There is no bar or restaurant but the location is such that there is plenty of choice nearby.

Breakfast was good, if a little cramped for space.

If you want to stay in Ainsa I couldn't imagine a better place to stop.
