“What a Wonderful Place!”

My husband, son, sister and I stayed at La Jacotiere for one night when we visited Mont St. Michel. Despite fighting with our GPS from Caens, we managed to find this charming chambre d'hote and we are so glad we did! We learned about Claudine by reading one of Rick Steeves books, and lo and behold there was a picture of he and his family in the dining room.

Claudine is a great hostess, very informative about the area and was so wonderful with our son, who is in French Immersion. She chatted away with him for an hour or so, and really made him glow with pride at his efforts.

Our family room was excellent - two double beds and one single, with a full bathroom. It was spotlessly clean, and very quiet.

Breakfast was great, in the charming sunlit dining room; homemade croissants and breaks, cheeses, jam, wonderful coffee and hot chocolate - it just made our first morning in France amazing.

It is very close to Mont St. Michel (we had a lovely view from our room) and all the restaurants in the area.

We would love to stay at La Jacotiere again someday!

“Great, quiet, comfortable, and close location to Mt Ste Michel”

La Jacotière was more than we expected at a high tourist location. When we arrived, Claudine, the owner and who was out when we arrived, had left the front door open for us with a note and key on the desk. When we requested to upgrade to the studio for our 3 nights - no problem. Since we were traveling on our tandem bike, she provided us storage in the large garage/workshop where it was never bothered as at some other places we've stayed and been told that no one would move it yet did. Claudine's breakfasts were wonderful. Each morning she prepared something new to go along with the standard French petit déjeuner. Coffee seemed to be free-flowing.

Having the studio allowed us to prepare evening meals instead of eating restaurant food. Everything was there that we needed. And despite the cool wet weather, we were toasty warm in our room. And we loved the quiet location away from all the nearby hotels and their buses and crowds. Plus we had a great view of Mont St Michel from both our room window and from our outdoor table.

The other thing we liked about La Jacotière is that one can easily walk to Mont St Michel, which we did twice; it was good to be off the bike for a couple of days and not have to worry about a car or bus (there is local service) in order to get to the island. And it was easy to walk to the local grocery for our nightly meals. Definitely a place to return to if we come this way again!

“QUINTESSENTIAL FRENCH HOSPITALITY AT IT'S BEST”

We got lost and arrived late in the evening. Claudine waited up to green us even though it was very late. It was so nice to spend two nights there as it was like being at home; clean, spacious, great breakfast and comfortable. The location couldn't be any better for a trip to Mont St .Michel and surrounding area. The night view of Mont St. Michel from the back yard was incredible. There was a fantastic local restaurant down the road (but bring your translator as the menu is only in french). Rick Steves recommended this B & B and we're glad we took his advice. Would love to return some day. Bonjour Claudine!

“Great room, great location, terrific service”

In a 9 day trip of France, this B&B was probably the hotel we stayed at. The room is clean and recently updated with modern furnishings and plenty of light. The breakfast is very fillings and the manager Claudine, friendly and informative. If you have time, try the walk to the mount - in some ways, the view from afar is the best part - you can imagine how moved the medieval pilgrims must have felt when approaching this monastery from all over europe.
[If you are traveling to Paris - I have a couple Air France Shuttle tickets, and pre-purchase Louvre tickets to sell. I will also bundle in a new LP France and French phrasebook all for a value of over $100. I am asking $65 for these. Email me if interested.]

“Clean, warm and friendly in a great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

We stayed at La Jacotiere for one night in June with our two boys so we could see the Mont. Although we arrived later than expected, Claudine was welcoming and friendly to us all. She showed us to our room on the upper floor, which was large, clean comfortable and warm as although it was June, it was still quite cool at that time. At this point I have to say that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to accommodation, having stayed in some of the best 6-7 star resorts in Asia for work and I had nothing to complain about at La Jacotiere.

My husband booked La Jacotiere based on reviews from TripAdvisor and it did not disappoint. The location in terms of proximity to the Mont is great, and if you were keen you could easily walk or ride it, as we saw many people doing. The other great part is that it is just slightly off the main strip of hotels where the throngs of tourist stay, so you really do feel like you are staying in a french countryside villa.

During our short time there we managed to visit the Mont 3 times, once on the evening of our arrival after the crowds had left for the day for an initial look around before the sun set and then dinner (we also saw the tide rushing in to surround the causeway - amazing). The second was early the next morning at dawn for the sunrise, again before the crowds arrived to complete our look around and before breakfast at La Jacotiere. Finally, our final trip was after breakfast, for a tour of the Monastery, which doesn't open till 9am.

The proximity of La Jacotiere to the Mont makes it easy to do these back and forth trips to the Mont without fighting the crowds. Staying off the Mont means you get to enjoy the views of it from a distance as well, particularly at night. Make sure you have a tripod if you want to take evening pictures of the Mont as it can get pretty windy there, which makes it difficult to get a still shot.

Claudine's breakfasts were lovely and very french, with lots of different types of breads and homemade jams. I tried each and everyone and they were delicious. If we ever went back to Mont St Michel, we would definitely go back and stay at La Jacotiere.

Thanks Claudine for a wonderful and memorable stay.
