“Comfortable retreat close to Giverny”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

This hotel is in a quiet backwater only about twenty minutes drive from Monet's garden at Giverny. It provided a welcome rest after the crowds of visitors to this attraction. My family stayed in four rooms, all of which were very comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms were clean and well-appointed. We appreciated being able to relax with a cup of tea and, later, a drink in the grounds. Both breakfast, which provided a varied buffet and excellent coffee, and a celebratory dinner in the restaurant were most enjoyable. As a group of eight we sampled many items from the menu, all of which were delicious. The only minor irritation was that several of the wines chosen from the wine list were unavailable.

Very nice hotel, good service and good value for money.

The restaurant was also well very nice - good food and nice atmosphere.

If you are considering escaping Paris it's perfect.

“Charming and characterful place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2009

I booked as a result of a recommendation from a business acquaintance. It's a most picturesque building in private grounds. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Most spoke English and were patient with my school boy French. Communication was not a problem.
The room was basic but clean and comfortable. There was a TV, minibar and WiFi.
The restaurant in the grounds has a charming ambience and the food was exquisite.

“For a chateau hotel - lacking that certain something”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

Don't be misled by the title "Chateau", for as this style of hotel goes, this one lacks charac ter and certainly nothing that can be described as a public space of note. In the evenings a huge metal shutter is brought down over the reception and one tiny seating area. The restaurant, in a separate building, is fine inside, but the food choice seemed limited and slanted. The overpowering curry taste and saltiness of the two mis-en-bouche items did not fair well for the rest of the meal. The room, on the ground floor, was next to an outdoor seating area, so it was a little like a goldfish bowl. The bathroom and wardrobe space was small and lacked adequate towel-rails for all the towels.

“A NO SERVICE HOTEL”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

The hotel building itself is beautiful with lovely gardens. The hotel has so much potential which is not being used. Check-in was fine, however, the receptionist had very limited English. The room itself is in dire need of redecoration, with peeling paint and cracked ceilings, however it was clean. The bathroom was also pretty shabby and in need of a make over. Outside the room, the hotel has NO facilities whatsoever, the bar and restaurant was closed the entire stay, we couldn't even have a coffee outside if we wanted. As the local supermarket was closed we had no food or drink for the entire stay. The reception closed at nine which also meant the common lounge was off limits. Conclusion: Nice facade, No service.

  • Liked — Authentic french ambience
  • Disliked — Lack of services
