The Chateau is excellently located for exploring Bayeux, Caen and the D Day beaches and very peacefully located. The building is quite stunning and set in beautifully laid out and well cared for formal gardens.
We stayed 3 nights on half board in a suite in the main wing of the Chateau (room 11). The panelled bedroom was spacious, high ceilinged, attractive and looked out onto the park, but the sitting room was so small and dark that in reality it could only be used as a dressing room. The bathroom was clean and well fitted, but the shower was in the bath rather than separate (due to lack of space).
The restaurant is superb. A few days before we arrived, we received an email asking us what time we would like to book a table for dinner - we asked for a window table and were given one each evening. The imaginative dinner menu has plenty of choice and the food was beautifully cooked and presented and tasted totally delicious. There were also a couple of "specials" each evening. There is plenty of reasonably priced wine on the wine list. Service in the restaurant was generally excellent and very attentive, although the young waitress who looked after us on the Saturday night had to be asked to top up our wine glasses, even though she wasn't busy at the time.
There were only a few tables having breakfast in the restaurant on the Friday morning, so we were served a typical continental breakfast at out table. At the weekend, there was an excellent and extensive breakfast buffet.
The barman (who also served in the restaurant) was particularly friendly and, like all the staff we encountered, spoke very good English.
When booking, I noticed that the Chateau was offering US visitors a 30% reduction on the room price after the first night and, when I asked for the same discount, we were readily given it.
We very much enjoyed out stay at Chateau d'Audrieu and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys elegant surroundings and fine cuisine. Not cheap, but worth splashing out on.
