“Beautiful chateau in the heart of Normandy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

Chateau d'Audrieu is a beautiful chateau converted into a hotel with an excellent restaurant. We stayed with our 13 month old daughter for one night and had dinner in the excellent restaurant which is not to be missed. Our room was clean, spacious and airy with a pleasant view over the garden. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating and offered to cook our daughter an early meal when the restaurant was closed. If you are looking to treat yourself I would recommend Chateau d'Audrieu.

“Room with a view - and serenity”

We had room #11 - in the main section, with a view over the grounds and the woods in the distance. Open the windows! Listen to the rustle of the leaves of the trees! Could have stayed there for ever. If you want to splurge: go for the forfait escapade gourmand. Room plus 7 course dinner INCLUDING wine. Then dont eat for a week.

“Unique experience in Normandy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

This hotel is a true chateau, with history that dates back to William the Conqueror's personal chef. We had two suites for our family of six. No air conditioning, but the breezes took care of that. The rooms were perfectly appointed, not too much and very comfortable. The staff ranged from cool (I got the sense that some of them would have been happy never to see young kids) to incredibly nice and helpful. The buffet breakfast is wonderful, and the dinner at the chateau's gourmet restaurant was the best we had in Europe on this trip. The grounds are beautiful, and include a playground and a treehouse up at the top of an old tree, plus an outdoor pool. No fitness center. A perfect base for exploring Normandy, including Bayeux and the D Day beaches.

“Quiet and good location. Service not so good..”

Good location, not so bad room but just at the level for a Relais&Chateaux.
The service was very (very) long both during the diner and for ordering a lunch.
The diner was quite good but nothing exceptional.

You have to enjoy the fantastic location, the forest around the castle and the area for the children. Good location if you want to do a break (not a cheap break for sure!)

“Beautiful chateau with excellent restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2010

The Chateau is excellently located for exploring Bayeux, Caen and the D Day beaches and very peacefully located. The building is quite stunning and set in beautifully laid out and well cared for formal gardens.

We stayed 3 nights on half board in a suite in the main wing of the Chateau (room 11). The panelled bedroom was spacious, high ceilinged, attractive and looked out onto the park, but the sitting room was so small and dark that in reality it could only be used as a dressing room. The bathroom was clean and well fitted, but the shower was in the bath rather than separate (due to lack of space).

The restaurant is superb. A few days before we arrived, we received an email asking us what time we would like to book a table for dinner - we asked for a window table and were given one each evening. The imaginative dinner menu has plenty of choice and the food was beautifully cooked and presented and tasted totally delicious. There were also a couple of "specials" each evening. There is plenty of reasonably priced wine on the wine list. Service in the restaurant was generally excellent and very attentive, although the young waitress who looked after us on the Saturday night had to be asked to top up our wine glasses, even though she wasn't busy at the time.

There were only a few tables having breakfast in the restaurant on the Friday morning, so we were served a typical continental breakfast at out table. At the weekend, there was an excellent and extensive breakfast buffet.

The barman (who also served in the restaurant) was particularly friendly and, like all the staff we encountered, spoke very good English.

When booking, I noticed that the Chateau was offering US visitors a 30% reduction on the room price after the first night and, when I asked for the same discount, we were readily given it.

We very much enjoyed out stay at Chateau d'Audrieu and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys elegant surroundings and fine cuisine. Not cheap, but worth splashing out on.
